Default Just bought 93 Bonneville!! AWESOME CAR

Hi, im new to this forum and as well to the Bonneville. I am 16 and this is my second car my first car was a flop at 647,000 kms that 86 Park avenue didnt last so i bought a 93 Bonneville loaded with leather, p.sunroof and heads up windshied display all the extras.
The only problems im having is the Traction control and Preformance shift does not engage even though i have follwed the instruction booklet exactly. Also my oil pressure gage works fine at idel reads 245 KPa, then soon as i drive off at any speed it burrys its self at 840 KPa.
Any help is aprricated
Thank you,

With the fear of sounding monotonous have you pulled any codes?

Each car has computer that runs the vehicle. To pull the codes you require the proper scan tool. Each PCM or ECM (computer) has a set of code that tell the driver what the problem is. Check in techinfo for PCM error codes.

The dead giveaway...is your Serive Engine Soon light on?

Before you go drop money at GM, just sit tight and I'm sure some of the resident pros will be able to help you out first.

I don't have traction control or performance shift, so I'm not the best guy to help you. Someone will get to it....and then you'll have a better idea what to tell GM, if that is necessary

93 was the last year for the 'flash' feature. You can pull BASIC codes with jumper wire. Procedure up in Techinfo.

Your performance shift will only be obvious at WOT. It should shift 300-500 rpm'* higher than normal....ONLY at WOT. This feature in 'normal' actually LIMITS the shift. In performance, it allows it to shift where a car without the option would normally shift.

Traction control can be any number of things. It'* closely related (and shares some components) with the ABS. Does your ABS work?

Your traction override switch and performance shift switch are both in the same location....have you checked the connector under the console to the switch pod?

Welcome to the forum!

Here are a few more questions:

Do the lights switch from performance shift to normal shift when you press the buttons?

Do you have a traction control light or ABS light lit up on the dashboard? Does the lamp for traction control on the button turn off when you press the traction control button? Does the traction control light on the instrument panel turn on when you press the button?

The Traction off light and ABS light are lit up all the time on my dashboard. When i press the preformance shift button it does not light up, however the light goes out on the normal shift button, if the normal shift is on the light on the button is lit up, when i press the traction control button it does no light up the normal drive button stays lit up.

Sounds like you may have an LED burned out under the performance shift button, because either the normal or the performance light is supposed to be on.

You also have a problem with your antilock brakes. You need to pull the codes from the antilock computer (I don't think you can do those with out a tool).
