Suspension question (not mechanical problem)
I know alot of the 92-99 Bonneville'* have the Electronic Level Control System on their car. And I noticed in my daughters sperm-donors 95 bonne it makes like a charging noise when you start to move. Now many of you know I have a 02, did they offer the ELC in the 00+? I hear the same noise in my car as his 95 ssei makes. Is it at all possible I have this option on my 02?? Tony (black94ssei) and I were talking about it this morning and he said that since I have the air in my trunk, that its a very good possibility that I have the ELC option. Can anyone answer this for me or atleast help?

Well then Aaron, I guess I do lol. Thanks. I just wasnt sure, I never seen anyone talk about it on here so I was curious. Now when you put these cars on a lift, it wont mess up the level system will it? I know alot of other cars like the Lincoln Towncars you couldnt lift them on a swing lift unless you shut off the leveler.

Since theres no shut off valve in the trunk of the Bonne, i dont think you have anything to worry about. The lincolns have a different air ride system which require them to be disabled.

Not sure how long ELC has been around. My 87 Olds Regency (Same platform as a Bonne had it) I quess the easiest way to find out is look at your rear shocks and see if the have a tiny airline going into them. EDIT>>>DUH. Well so many people answaered in the time it took to write, I quess You got your answer

Commenting on something mentioned above. The 92-99 ELC isn't problematic. Other than the age of the struts.
We'll start seeing 2k and newer rear strut failures soon enough.

the rear shocks on 00+ are subject to early mount failures and many people replace the shocks at the same time as the mounts.
00+ failures will not be as apparent in ride height as previous generations because they use shocks not struts, so unless under heavy load you wont know if they are leaking at all, and many people will not notice any change at all until the shock itself begins to perform poorly resulting in a rough ride, and not low ride height

Just because a couple people share a problem doesn't mean it'* "problematic". It can be old..
The 00'* do talk about ELC, however it'* mostly discussed regarding being at the track and using it to keep the weight from transferring.
(If'n you two got out of the lounge once in a while..you might find some of those posts.)
Tony.. don't forget your homework assignment from the other night. I'm gonna quiz you this w/e to make sure you've been reading up and learning more about your car..

I only said problematic because we have found that not only do the struts go bad and no longer hold air, but the check valves go, as you have dealt with, as well as the pump just giving out due to being on for longer periods ect ect......
Where they are mounted doesnt help prolong the life either IMO.
Oh and Boosty? Homework stopped for me about 14+ years ago!!
