Default VATS My A$$

A theif just stole my car and rapped it for my 2 tv'* radio amp rims and all the good stuff. I though that with these cars they have the VATS system which mean that the chip in the key should have been present before the car can even start(I Guess Not)!

Though my question is if i could sue the alarm company that put my $300 dollar alarm and remote starter on because they failed to hook the kill switch on the alarm to the starter which meant that the car still could start eene with the alarm armed. It all worked fine withe the alarm, blinking lights and remote starter but no starter diabler. I feel that the car should have not moved from the space where it was left. What do you think

and its better to invest in a serious insurance policy rather than a car alarm if they want it they will get it and a alarm only buys you time

This is going to sound horrible, but this is probably what happened. When your shop installed your remote starter, they probably put a resistor in the VATS wiring without using a relay to start your car. So by putting in their remote starter they disabled your VATS. The aftermarket alarm will be so much easier to defeat because it is right there in the open under your steering column. If the factory alarm would have still been intact they probably wouldn't of been able to steal your car. I'd go after the company too. IT was much easier to steal by far with the aftermarket 'security' system definately. Sorry to hear about your luck. :(

My 97 was the one they took all of the things out of. Im sorry to say but GAMEOVER my car WAS on your head lol!! But not any more! I think that my big 15'' tv was nice. Too bad I had No-Fault insurance, and just think the week before that i was gonna put the Fullcoverage on it. My fault But i got the car back and thats all i really wanted.

I think they did put a resistor chip inside the vats when they installed it because when i installed they steering column the orange sleeve had a chip in it but still all in all the car was not suppose to start because of the kill switch inside the alarm to disable the starter. But when putting the steering column in there was no wires connected to the yellow or purple wire for the starter.

Hopefully i can sue them and try and get back my things for free. Now i have to get all the damages fix on the car before i take it to the insurance company to be inspected so that i can get full coverage.

I will post pics of how the cars looks now in a couple of days.

The bad thing is that the theifs stepped in mad and F**KED up my carpet(it was clean!!)

They may turn around and say that the starter kill was an option that you had to pay extra for. Especially if you go back on them for something. There is usually 2 ways of hooking up the starter kill switches. One way is if the alarm is tripped the car will not start, but if they unplug your alarm it will start right up. The other way is if it is tripped it will not start, if they unplug your alarm it will not start. They would have to energize the relay to allow the car to start.

Only bad thing to the second version is if your alarm gets fubared for some reason ( they all go in time) then you can't start your car.

I also agree with them bypassing the factory alarm to get the after market starter to work.

I hope for your sake you can go back on them for something, but they will probably find a way out of it.
