Good news: I bought a 2000 SLE yesterday. Joy.

Bad news: My purse with my license, phone, checkbook and CAR KEYS was stolen yesterday about an hour later!!!

So these dips have my address and keys to my car.

What can I do? Is there a way to make the keys 'die'? They arent the passlock keys I dont think... theres no chip in them...

oh gosh please help! I've been really sad and worried and Its hard to enjoy my new car...

I would think a locksmith could change the keys on the car....but I could be wrong. As far as the key FOB goes you would have to go to the dealer, and they will charge you some money.

I still need to get keyless entry fobs from the dealer...he lost the ones with the car so I will get those free anyways. I guess I'll call around to see what I can do.

Sorry to hear of the bad news. Thieves mostly go for the moulah and ditch the rest somewhere. Maybe your phone is gone too. I wouldnt worry about them returning for the car. If thats what they wanted, they would have stolen one.

Just make sure you notify the police and file a report, and cancel those credit cards/bank accounts. Its such a PITA but at least you will be rest assured that they wont have any access to your accounts.

I've canceled all the bank acct #'* and filed all the proper info with the police. The officer said that what they would be after was the money, and that'* all been taken care of.

I feel like an idiot because I think its all my fault.

We had gone to a little pizza place and i set my bag on the chair next me. I gathered up all the leftovers to leave and forgot my bag there. We returned to get it very shortly thereafter, but it had already been snagged. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

See, my 96 has the chip in the key, but my new one doesnt....unless I cant see it on these keys...wow I sound stupid.

I am not sure how the key system works for 2000+. We need somebody to jump in here with some sound information. I know if it was me and they had my address and car keys, I would really look into getting the locks changed. In the meantime, do you have a garage to keep the car in? Is the dealer you got the new car from a GM dealer? If so, maybe they coul;d be helpful.

the 00+ keys have the antitheft built into the key itself. Therefore, yes your car is vunerable.

It sucks because we dont have a garage. My husband will park his pickup on the road behind my car (which will be in the driveway) for the time being, and I'll ask the neighbors to keep an eye out for people that arent ME hanging around my car.

I will look into getting the locks changed today, unless anybody knows of another fix.

I bought the car from a pre-owned only dealer, but they are closely affiliated with the GM dealer so I know they'll help me out.

well sounds like you have done most of what ya can do... change the locks.. will probbe a lil bit costly... and get a replacement key for the ign.

off topic: we need to switch back to capital punisment. if you steal something you will get your hang cut off... they still do that in other countys (not sure about the hand deal) but they dont have to deal with thier stuff gettin stolen all the time... look at that one kid that spray painted cars and got like 6 or 7 lashes with that whip. that what we need to switch back to..
