Default Oh no, Iím craving an SSEiÖ

I think it will pass. Maybe. But look at this sweet ride: http://carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/factsheet.aspx?id=8
Ití* an 03 model, the last year for the SSEi, Black, 13k virgin (no mods Iím sure). Mmmmmm.

Donít get me wrong, I love my GXP. But I really want a 13 second daily driverÖand better mileage would be a bonus. Iím lusting after this black SSEiÖproblem is, Iím probably a few thou upside down on the GXP (basically you lose 2-3k just on the trade). And my GXP loan is at 4.99%, and I know I could not get that rate on this car. On the plus side, based on the gas mileage figures Iím seeing on this website, my monthly gas expense might very well drop from 260/month to 200/month. The EPA figures are not much different between the 2 cars, but the real world figures apparently are.

The only practical way I see to get my GXP in the 13s is NOS. Nothing wrong with that in general, but Iím just not an NOS guy. I want the power under my right foot at all times, and donít want to hassle with NOS refills. In reality, Iíll most likely end up with an empty bottle just when an unexpected need for the extra power arises.

I realize that the GXP vs SSEi topic has already been covered, but I am open to any additional thoughts or observations. Iíll say this, my GXP is a gem in the high speed handling and stability dept.Öbut the SSEi ought to basically be the equivalent with the addition of a STB and 18sÖright?

thank you for using carmax.com!

Unfortunately, the vehicle you are trying to view is no longer in our inventory. Ití* important to check back often, as our average used vehicle sells in less than 10 days.

Darn, it was there yesterday, and I still have it up on my browser. Price was 16,998. Black, dark grey leather, chrome wheels, sunroof, etc. Here is a pic: Name: 2003_SSEi1.jpg

Well I'm sure that nice ones like that come up every now and then. But 13k miles has got to be a pretty rare find for an '03.

When I was looking, I found that as mileage went down, price went up exponentially. I found a 2003 with 7k on it (yes, 7,000 miles) and it was listed for around $18,000. And it didn't seem to matter what condition the car was actually in..."but it only has 43,000 miles!" was what I got from one dealer wanting $15,900 for his 03 SSEi. The passenger door hung up on the fender when opened - he wouldn't budge on the price.

Also, pricing depends on your locale. Here in the west they're a little more scarce and command a slightly higher price.

Yeah, I guess with CarMax, you pay more, and you are supposedly getting a car that'* been fully inspected, and that you can return within 5 days, and they warrantee it for 30 days. I've heard nothing but good about them from several friends that have purchased from them over the years.

I'm kinda skiddish about buying used cars; I've only purchased 2 vehicles in the last 18 years and both were from friends for a couple grand. When I bought the GXP, my only vehicle, a modified 87 tbird had several issues I was nursing along, would not pass smog, then I popped a head gasket, and decided I had to get something reliable immediately. I was sick of working on cars and wanted something new or almost new. I didn't want to take any chances, and the GXP was GM certified. In hindsight, an SSEi would probably have been the better choice. With some basic mods, I think it could provide the performance and gas mileage of my bird with extra room, style, smoothness, and dependability.

Oh and I see that the 03 SSEi is still for sale, the direct link just doesn't work. You just have to go to the site and search.
