What is a most efficient cruizing speed for Series I SSEi?
Just curious. Had a reletevly long trip a week ago. 550 km (345 mi) in total and I did that on 46 liters (12.2 gallons) of premium fuel. That almost shocked me at first. Most of my driving was @ 120 km/h or 74 mph. Some stop & go traffic involved also. Would never expect that from SC car of this size which is 15 years old. It averaged at 8.4 liters/100 km or 28 mpg. Unreal. Even my previous 97 A8 (about same weight, slightly bigger engine) german autobahn cruizer could barelly get that but I would had to take it really easy.

With the gear ratio you have and if its well tuned, you can get those numbers if you stay out of Boost...
with the 2.97 Gear ratio and not speeding... Say 70-75 Mph Like you were doing... You can pull down those numbers all day long

94 SSEi mileage
I just ran a trip with mixed driving 80 -130 kph from Sarnia area to the Toronto area and returned on the secondary roads in the 100KH range on the way home
625 KM and 59 litres
I thought it was so so for the car
Distance travelled: 625Km
Amount of gas required: 59Litres
Metric (Canada) 9.44 L/100KM
Metric (Europe) 10.59 KM/L
US Gallons 25.06 MPG
Imperial Gallons 29.93 MPG
I commute 100km round trip running 90 -100kph
Best so far 555 km on 53 litres
Distance travelled: 555 Km
Amount of gas required: 53 Litres
Metric (Canada) 9.55 L/100KM
Metric (Europe) 10.47 KM/L
US Gallons 24.77 MPG
Imperial Gallons 29.58 MPG
For anyone looking for a great mileage calculator for Canuck cars go to

I would like to see my car do better. I thought the high twenties in US Gallon was more the normal.
Thinking I still have a minor exhaust leak likely messing with the O2 sensor.
Cat is likely on it'* way out after the first blown motor pumped 3 litres of oil through it.
Still the most fun car I have owned to drive
Go Bonny!

I get 30 in one car, and 32 in the other. At 70-75mph.
If you honestly want to know, drive the actual speed limit (lowest rpm possible in OD) and you'll do better.
I'm moving your topic to General Chat. This isn't a mechanical problem.

The most efficient place to drive is right at about 50, its kinda annoying at that speed, but you'll get some impressive numbers there. I pull about 34 if i do that speed constantly. Its a beautiful thing.
