Default Underbody Neons + snow and salt = ?

Are there any members with underbody neons that drive your Bonne in the winter? I'm getting underbody neons installed this coming Saturday. For some reason I never really thought too much about driving in the winter with these things on my car until last week. I always rinse the underbody in the winter (daily if possible) anyway, but is that going to be good enough to keep these neons from getting ruined by the salt/snow? I spent enough on them, I don't want them to get destroyed.

I'm looking for a cheap winter beater in the meantime, but if I can't get one I'll be driving the Cutty.

Yeah, I would think that extreme cold temperature might be more dangerous than moisture and such (which exterior lighting should be at least somewhat resistant to). You might want to check the recommended temperature range for usage, which I'd imagine is in the fine print of your neons somewhere.

Tamara has her green set taken off her car and doesn't want to put it back on hers.. and wants me to put onto mine.. but been too lazy to cause like Pete have winter scare.. I was thinkin of building an additional housing around it which will purposely slope down in certain areas with small slits for drain holes.. this will keep majority of the crap out.. and the heat from neon will melt watever is there and won't be a whole slew of them all over the neons.. only issue is.. well.. clear plastic or plexi glass would be expensive to make this and it would have to be removable from time to time to clean the inside of the housing. I never thought bout operating temp if it can handle the extreme cold and being turned on without blowing.. good point.. Pete.. thats up to you, cause Tamara doesn't have the manual for hers anymore

You could get that foam tubing material from hardware stores and wrap it around the neons, to at least protect it physically from the salt and snow chunks.

Well I used to have neon on my truck when I had it. I took them off one year then for the next few years I left them on in the winter. It hits -40 at times in the winter up here. Sure they didn't wanna light up properly in -40 but I wasn't too concerned. They worked up until I removed them when I sold the truck.

They do however recommend that you remove them in the winter. I guess if you could get some kind of connector up the wire ( not too far) that you are able to disconnect fairly easily and is water tight then it won't be that much of a PITA to remove them each fall and re-install them each spring.

Up to you just give my input, hehe.

I was thinking the same thing Peter, probably best to just wait til spring. At least you wont be disappointed if something happens over the winter. You'll have spring and summer 05 to enjoy them.
