Repair or replace 2011 Equinox Transmission?

Repair or replace 2011 Equinox Transmission?
I find myself in a rather difficult position. Surprise, surprise the wave plate failed on my 2011 Equinox Transmission. Shop service writer 'thought' I might be offered some kind of customer assistance program since car has only 55,000 miles on it. Originally said 'assistance' would be on either repair or rebuilt replacement from GM. Now after a tear down and impending charges for that labor... the assistance is only being offered on the repair of the wave plate part. Repair offers a 12 month warranty but ONLY on the part that failed. Price $2750. Option 2 is replace with a GM rebuilt for $3900. NO ASSISTANCE GIVEN... on a 55k mile vehicle? Rebuilt would have a 3 year / 100K mile warranty? Very disappointed the assistance offer only comes with repair and even the warranty is only for the specific part replaced? What is the likelihood other damage will appear beyond the wave plate? Is the 'assistance' real savings or would the repair cost have been the same anyways? I have a long history with GM cars... first time I have ever found myself in this situation. Not sure if GM or my local dealer is to blame? ZERO assistance on a rebuilt... seems unfair. Suggestions please?

Does your Equinox have the 2.4 l 4 cylinder or the V-6? The reason I ask is that the 10-12 2.4'* apparently have a proclivity for cam chain tensioner failure, some well before 100K miles. I would hate to see you dump big bucks into a transmission repair/rebuild only to have the 2.4 crap out on you shortly after. I did a lot of research into the 2.4 this last winter and decided to gamble on a 2017 Equinox LT as the 04 Bonne SLE was getting long in the tooth with 165K miles and the wife wanted a crossover for ease of entry/exit. There are higher rated crossover SUV'* out there than the Equinox, but I couldn't resist the price. In Feb. I got $4250 in GM incentives plus another $2725 I had on my GM credit card and another $500 for being a Farm Bureau insurance member. Whatever your decision, I wish you good luck.
