Default the buzz on Onstar

Okay, who else subscribes to Onstar? Who else got the letter saying they will no longer have service as of Jan 08? Who else is that these idiots put ancient technology in our "older" Bonnevilles so now it won't work when cell carriers drop analog? I occasionally visit my home state of NY where there are laws against driving with a cell phone plastered to your skull. I really like the features our Bonnies offer, and now I will be losing one of them.

Has anyone heard of anything regarding the impending doom of my 01'* Onstar system?
I know there is no upgrade available on mine, but I just thought someone may have heard the scuttlebut.

Thanks for any info that I don't already have!

Doug

I thought Onstar said if you take your car to the dealer they will update the system for like $40 or something? Maybe Im wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

Your cellphone will still work. Just not the OnStar features. Bear in mind, many cell companies will soon be dropping analog coverage too, though.

I received the letter for my 04 Bonneville. I can upgrade to Digital from any authorized GM dealer for $15.00. I do have to sign up for another year of OnStar with the dealer for the $15.00 price.

Sounds like there is no upgrade to Digital for you.
