i found an extra set of GXP springs
so heres something to play with in the winter
I've always wanted to lower my car, sadly no one makes springs for us
someone on another forum said to call Eibach or SSC and see if they can go by specs or measurements and maybe they can match something for my GXP, which i will do prior to starting this project/idea

again, this is not a "for sure" job, just an idea so far

i know cutting is not recommended by most people and its not the best way to lower a car, and i'm also aware of how bumpy/bouncy the car will be
but i'm just curious about one thing

if i do decide to cut the springs, the front will be fine i'm assuming
i'm wondering about the back, if i do cut the spring to lower it or buy already done springs, how would the rear leveling airbag react with that? would it bring it back up? or whats the story?

Springs for the 04? Deville will work for the front.

Rear.. you need to change the position on the ELC rod

Same springs? Is it same as STS too? And I'm assuming they make lowering springs for them?

As for the rear, what about the springs, any idea?
And how hard is it to change the position on the ELC rod?

Ya, the ELC rod needs to be shortened whether you cut the springs or not. You'd have to cut/weld it. However you lower the front, by cutting or different spring you should have a strut that matches the height or they wont last long bottoming out. As well the caster which we can't set on the Bonneville was be adversly affected. You'd need to use a caster plate on the top of the strut or chop your tires. They are pricey.

Do not cut the springs. It'll ride like a pogo stick on the highway.

It takes a lot to bottom out stock struts. Definitely over 2". I'm barely bottoming out on a 3.5"+ drop. That'* with GP struts.. but I'm sure they're similar in that aspect. Did 2" on stock 92-99 without issue too.

Caster is not a big deal unless you're doing some sort of serious auto-x or something.
It'* the camber you have to worry about and that can be fixed with crash/camber bolts.

The bolts wouldn't fix mine, but then I was extreme. I chopped a set of tires every 15-18K..... OK maybe the burnouts didn't help.

Difference is 1.5 to 2 inch to almost what 5 haha

Laying frame is nice but it has its costs haha

Ya, snifle..... It was SO sexy. But what a cost in money and ride comfort.

Yeah bags and actually riding low isn't the best.

My ride is pretty comfortable for tucking tire and that'* with bulging disks. Tire wear is even still good with -1.5 camber in the rear and -1 in the front. (Actually had it zeroed out with bolts to begin with but added camber for handling) It'* when you start going past -2 that tire wear becomes an issue. Toe is good and that'* what matters most.

i guess its not as simple as i thought it would be eh? lol
and all im looking for is about an inch or 1.5 max, nothin more than that

i was browsing thru cardomain and i saw one member with a lowered bonneville that looked just too damn good (it was done by heating the springs, FAIL). but just looking at the pictures made me open this thread
