Exclamation Buying a Bonneville

ok, well actually not me, the girlfriend. Since her '97 grand prix hit the dust, she wanted a '04-'08 Grand Prix but they are out of her price range so I suggested a bonneville. We found this one, but I am only familiar with issues out of 92-99 models.

what do you guys think of the car? was it possible to order those rims originally with the ssei? does anyone see anything obscure? I am going to look at it thursday with her and i need to know what to check on it. battery age? areas prone to rust? other general issues?

thanks a ton!

Nice looking ride. I do believe those wheels were optional.

You might check Kelly Blue Book and look at the car price for your locale. $7300 seems okay, but I'm also thinking of car prices around my neck of the woods.

If the seller has all the maintenance records, you could ask to see them and to make certain that periodic maintenance and inspections were being done. Here'* some things to check:

Check the rotor and brakes for wear.
Check all lights.
Check the DIC for abnormal call outs.
Check the tires for abnormal wear. Especially the front.
Looks at belts and hoses. Any look newer than the rest. Might be signs of repairs.
Check the oil for cleanliness and foam.
Check the transmission fluid level. Does it look like small metal flakes in it? Does it smell burned? Is it dark like used motor oil.
Check the SC pulley on the snout for back and forth play.
Look at idler pulley. Any abnormal wear or cracks.
How the serpentine belt and SC belt look.
Check the air filter for cleanliness.
Check the cabin filter. Has it been changed.
Take it for a drive!

Hope this helps.

Also check to see how quickly the A/C cools. It might give a hint at if he is telling the truth about keeping up with maintenance and the A/C system is charged.

The car looks very clean. The engine is also very clean, a indication the owner takes care of it. But now to find out if he just cleaned the engine to sell it, or it'* always like that. Remove the engine cover, is it clean under there? Look under the car, is the under side of the engine cleanish. Check the underside of the car for any rust.
