Default G8

Just wondered if anyone here had test drove the new G8?
Am i right in assuming this was the replacement for the Bonneville? I love the look of them, not to mention the fact it comes in a 6-speed. Can't wait to get one some day.
What'* your thoughts?

The dealer near me did not have any in stock. But they sure wanted to sell me one without test driving.

The Bonneville line was dropped by Pontiac in 2005. The G8 is not it'* replacement. This is a different breed born from the Pontiac genre of the luxury American made ground pounder.

Also, please add your year and trim of your vehicle to your signature line. That way when you start asking questions in other areas of the forum, we all have a better idea on how to assist you. Click on "Quick Links" above, go down to "User Control Panel" and then click on "Edit your Signature" It'* pretty straight forward from there.

It'* an Aussie import, It is Pontiac'* new full size, but hardly a Bonne replacement. It'* so Buick. But hey, by next year we might have to buy one that says Holden, if they come out of the bankruptcy alive. I cant believe the mess Obama has made. All the plans and contracts....... Shredded. Who knows what we will end up with by summer. Change. Ya. He said he was about Change. LOL

the G8 was the replacement for the grand prix and the G6 was the replacement for the G6

i test drove both the G8 and the G8 GT... its hard to believe it a pontiac.. the handling on it is amazing.. ive drove few BMWs before and i swear i would say the G8 was the same if not better than the BMW performance and power wise..

I'm not sure about who came up with the controversy over which of the Bonneville or the Grand Prix the G8 is supposed to replace. Look at Pontiac'* history. The Bonneville hasn't always been around. The 1957 Star Chief was really fast on the Bonneville Salt Flats, so it got the title Bonneville. In 1958, the Star Chief was renamed simply Bonneville. Since 1957/8, the Bonneville has been Pontiac'* top tier luxury and performance vehicle. The Grand Prix came out in 1962 as a sporty, smaller version of the top-of-the-line Pontiac. By 97, the Grand Prix and the Bonneville were using the same engine, and the Bonneville went out of production first. That'* really about it.

The G8 replaces neither the Grand Prix nor the Bonneville. Simply, it just is the next top tier Pontiac. It goes Star Chief, Bonneville, and then G8 in chronological order. GM did not see a need or a desire for a slightly less-than-G8 Pontiac, so one didn't come out. Note the slightly less-than-G6 Pontiac called the G5. A tiny Pontiac has been around since the Isonfire (Sunfire... ), and now Pontiac has seen the need to compete with the Aveo by releasing the G3. If the G8, G6, and G5 replace former Pontiac badges, what is the G3? It'* not a matter of arbitary name replacement, but of demand for specific model types while entire model lines change.

And now that I've gotten that out of my system, I test drove a G8 GT. It'* awesome. People say their cars turn on a dime, but the G8 really does! I think it barely goes forward, if at all, when you completely turn the wheel to one side. When the wheel is straight and you mash the pedal, it takes off! I was thrown into my seat while I enjoyed the amazing sound of the V8. The sound is neither too loud nor too soft. It'* a lot of fun to drive! Go test drive one!

Wish I had the bucks for a new G8 GXP - 415hp ... highest EVER for a Pontiac (even the 1962-63 421cid racers with dual quads were only 405hp [before hp recalcs of 1971]).

I have not driven one but the press (who are rarely on domestic car side even tho an Aussie car) were truly amazed and that was a road test on the GT. Sat in bright Blue one at dealer and they are really roomy inside, even in back. I was quite surprised.

2009 G8 4dr Sedan Base - - 256-hp, 3.6-liter V-6
2009 G8 4dr Sedan GT - - 355-hp, 6.0-liter V-8
2009 G8 4dr Sedan GXP - - 415-hp, 6.2-liter V-8
