hi everyone.19 here just got a great and and have some money wanting to invest in a new/ used 1988 bonneville sse. it has lots of potential. but i dont know who i could get a hold of for some ideas of wat i can do. and i dont know alot about cars pleese someone help ???

There is a lot of power potential in these cars. A blown engine is always the best way to go, but your N/A engine is pretty perky too. The first thing you should do is get a 180 degree thermostat. This will keep your engine running cool. There is a weakness in the plastic intake manifold. It is prone to cracking. If you get the thermostat, it will make it last much longer.

Another thing you could do is make or buy a cold-air intake system. You want to run a straight pipe from the throttle body with a cone filter. Those seem to be most effective.

You can also go hardcore and maybe do some exhaust work, add high ratio rockers, upgrade the ignition, and if you have the money, buy a CSC.

i was wonder small modification first cause like i said i know nothin of cars and a few i deas for how to get it done ! i dont want to get ripped off just cause i have money

here is an example of a cold air intake. It allows a lot of cold air from the outside to enter the engine. The colder the air, the more dense it is, allowing more power.

A CSC is a Centriugal Supercharger. It is a very expensive but powerful solution.

Okay, I got a question...what's the deal with the 180* thermostat everyone always talks about? do I need one of those? or if my car is ten years old and hasn't had one, is it already too far gone?

jeanie i was just lookin at some and there realy cheap and can be very effective on over all horse power and its still cool to put one in it will keep your egine from workin so hard giving it a longer life

The thermostat is recommended for Series II engines. The plastic intake manifold can crack from the heat of the engine. The thermostat will let more coolant in, so the intake will last longer. It's worth the $10 purchase.

Do I have a Series II ? dumb question, i'm sure...but remember I only PRETEND to know anything about my car :)
