Need Help
Alright so my dad is getting ready to go on a business trip. For some reason, Hes gonna take the Jeep grand cherokee with him (71k miles) because he cant trust the Bonneville with 173k miles. I told him that the engine (3. is one of the most reliable engines out there, The ride is comfortable, and The car is in great shape. He just won't listen!
He tells me he wants to impress his business people (he'* picking up a few guys at the airport) but i just don't understand.
What do i think?
Well, to tell you the truth, he has never had a car that has more miles than the Bonneville (we sold our Taurus wagon with 73k on it cause my dad thought that was old :/)
So How can i convince my dad that the Bonneville will be smooth, impressive, and won't break down because i know that bonnie will not break down on him.
Please Help!

There isn't really any proof that it won't break down to be honest with you. All I can provide is my experience. My Regal went to 217k miles and never left me stranded, at which point I decided I wanted a new (faster) motor.

**** i had my 95 regal with the series 1 3800 (L27) other than a few small goodies done to the upper end
i bought it with 248K miles i sold it with just a pinch under 298K miles...with a blow trans..they put another trans in it..and drove it for another year and then packed up and left town with it..
these motors will break down theres no denying that...however there very easy to work on, realiable and with some mods..they can produce some good power for a FWD v6
tell your dad if he doesnt like the Bonneville, he should give it to you and with our help we could make that thing new again!

Even a new car can brake down. My wifes 2005 Montana has more problems then my 97 Bonneville. If it'* ell cared for, there'* no reason why it wont take you to 200k and beyond.

The problem with mileage like that is that stupid **** will break. Things like your battery, alternator, starter going bad. Things that are very minimal, but will potentially leave you in a bad spot on the highway. I had my starter go out on me in early January of this year. The car refused to start right after I finished pumping gas. I went out and bought a tool set for $10, a starter for $60, and got the job done in half an hour in the freezing cold, in the gas station parking lot. That'* the kind of easy maintenance and easy repair that makes these cars so awesome to own. If your alternator goes bad, it takes you at most 15 minutes to change it. The car itself will be very reliable as a whole, but you'll have those few days when the starer or alternator takes a dump on you, and you're stuck without that car till you get it fixed. That'* the way it will be with any car with that kind of mileage.

Can I please ask you to use punctuation in the future? Your post hurt my brain to read.

honestly, any V6 made by GM from oh, the late 80s until now has very few fatal flaws to it. in the end, it all comes down to neglect and luck. you neglect it, of course it'* going to die early, but then you also have to factor in the tolerances GM was playing with(luck). if you get lucky, you'll have gotten a tight motor that can potentially go 200K miles before even getting to service limits that a loose motor could have started with from the factory.
GM FWD auto transaxles on the other hand...... seem to be a lot more luck then anything. i have yet to kill one, but even people who take care of their stuff can suffer catastrophic trans failure seemingly randomly.

Why try and convince him? Seems that he'* leaving you with a nice car to drive around. Since he doesn't want to drive high mileage... it'* all yours.
