Default LN3 or L27

With only the engine sitting in front of me how would I know if it is a LN3 or L27? I am not familiar with these at all.

L27 has a black composite intake or a white aluminum one. The LN3 is a aluminum intake that says 3800 on it or has a injector cover that has a retangular opening in the middle

I believe LN3 has a flat upper intake. The L27 has the 'bumpy' intake. Black plastic (and aluminum in 92). Quickest way to tell IMO.

I'm pretty certain that the one with 3800 stamped on the top of the UIM just means it is an earlier LN3 (88 ). They started putting 3800 on the engine cover for '89.
