I'm sorry...that sucks. Thank God for small miracles though...daddy with a body shop is a very good thing!

Yeah, you could work out a lotta neat stuff with free time in a body shop like Ram Air, eyebrows, spoiler, etc... Well post some before and after pics if you can!

I know the feeling: I've _seen_ this happen no fewer than _three_ times with my _own_ cars. (You'd think I'd learn to park somewhere else by now... )

1) Me: Old '74 Chevy Vega GT wagon (which I dearly loved, bought it for $50, sold it for $500 two years later...). Her: 1980 Chevy Chevette. As I'm standing on the front lawn of my friend'* house, with the Vega parked across the street, she backs out of her driveway next door and right across the street without looking, slams into the driver'* door of the Vega (okay, for Chevette vs. Vega maybe "slams" is too strong a word -- she _bounces_ off the Vega), _then_, when the cops show up, tells us all that she didn't see the parked car because she was "running [her] mouth" and basically pleads guilty to the whole thing. Cop and me both roll our eyes. Her insurance sends me a check for $450, I buy a replacement door for $20 (remember, we're talking about a _Vega_ here) and pocket the difference.

2) Me: 1978 Trans Am (nicknamed "Thumper" because the front suspension would always bottom out over bumps). Him: 1972 Buick Skylark GS. Big party, narrow driveway, he'* backing up in the dark with no backup lights. *wham* Right into my left rear quarter panel. Fortunately his friend owns a body shop; I get red-carpet treatment and a perfect repair.

3) Me: 1982 T-top Cutlass Supreme. Him: A Lexus salesman who drove a brand new Lexus home over the weekend to apparently impress his date. As I'm standing on the front lawn of my brother-in-law'* house (you'd think I'd learn not to stand on front lawns by now, but noooo...), this guy backs down his driveway and, you guessed it, never sees the Cutlass until he slams into the left rear quarter. What irritated _me_ was that the Cutlass got shoved 6" to the right by the impact, yet the alarm never went off. Great shaker switch there! So anyhow, back to the same body shop that did the beautiful Trans Am repairs, got the quote, strolled over to the Lexus dealership and got the royal (apologetic) treatment from the owner there. Never did see that salesman again, though. Wonder what happened to him.

That'* why I don't park on the side of the street when I'm not around my car, and I park far away from stores and malls so no one will hit it. It'* worth the extra walking distance.

I learned a nifty tip from a friend in East St. Louis. Park crazy, take up two or three spots in both parking aisles.

I completely agree with you 94sse

My friends always rag on me for parking too far away from mall enterances, or for finding the right spot to park... but it'* worth it.

I try not to park next to cars that look like the owners don't care, or that look like they are hauling kids around in. You know kids love to throw open the door and *WACK!* right into the car parked next to them.

I do keep an eye open for nice new cars, and older cars that look like they've been pampered. I'll park myself between them.

Damn, I don't even do that! I'm really anal when it comes to parking. I don't park next to anyone if I can avoid it, and I usually do avoid it. I take up two spots if I'm in a corner and far away from others. I know ppl out there that would key up cars for taking up 2 spots. My friend has a Bonne but he rags on me for parking far away, saying I treat my car as if it were a Mercedes. Well, I do, sorry
