My first taste of whine

I took my first real ride in the SSEi tonight. My first thought was it didn't have the neck snapping accelleration I anticipated but it was strong nevertheless. The trip was only 5 miles and mostly town roads so I couldn't get a full taste of the L67. I was also expecting to hear the SC whine more but it was only audible under mild, steady accelleration and was pretty quiet at that.

Although I've run a half of a tank of gas through it during testing and whatnot, this is the first time it's been driven in I'll guess 6 months... maybe upwards to a year. The seller has said it had been sitting for some time prior to my purchase. Due to this, the brakes sounded like hell and didn't bite very well. Also, the ABS light is on constantly.

Overall, I'm very happy with the results and look forward to getting it registered next week. It's been a long, hard road and now I'm ready for my rewards :D

Very little whine with a stock intake setup. Keep up the good work!

jlathem 10-12-2004 01:32 AM

Put a CAI on it ! My SSEI has a ... zzzZZZZZIIIng sound to it.
Some folks dont like it. I think it sounds cool. Also try the
TPS and Boost bypass mod. Those 2 things really woke my SSEI up.

yea the CAI will help u out a lot believe me people wonder what whine i have under my hood

LakevilleSSEi 10-12-2004 11:43 AM

Congradulations!! Put a CAI on it, everyone thinks I'm spinning a bearing or something with as loud as mine is.....It's hilarious.....I'm gonna try to do the boost bypass mod and TPS mod tonight.

randman1 10-12-2004 12:47 PM

The CAI is high on my priority list. I'm going to replace the double washer fluid tank with the single tank out of the parts car for some more room. Maybe I can make one as sexy as Foghorn's :D

opensourceguy 10-12-2004 12:54 PM

You know what.. you have a damn good idea on your hands. I know our bottles are made differently blah blah blah.. but my headlight sprayer works.. and the coolant overflow and windsheild bottles sitting there are nasty, and I don't like them. The coolant overflow could be relocated.. and the washer fluid could all go into the head light container, and move the lines, because both are related, I could have them both run off one pump.. or have two.. one for windsheild, one for headlights. I am going to investigate this now.

Boost is a great reward. There's nothing like the sound of a supercharger to make a man happy ... nothing.

opensourceguy 10-12-2004 02:18 PM

I disagree sol. I don't have boost, and I bring a smile to my face when I shift at 5200rpm.. mmm I love the sound of the engine.. just a lack of sound on the damn exhaust!

agreed... am i the only one here that thinks forced induction is kinda "cheating?" i love the roar of my exhaust at WOT when the motor's grabbing all the air it can get, as opposed to some mechanical device force feeding it. whine is the sound of imported power; roar is the sound of american muscle. look at the 70's! most of the power there was just a big block with a couple carbs and a dual tunnel ram. my ambition is to someday take my NA bonnie into the 14's and beyond. now that's REAL muscle!

willwren 10-12-2004 06:20 PM

When you experience boost, there's no going back ;)

kevo 10-12-2004 06:29 PM

Ain't that the truth ! While my car was being worked on by my Father-in-law, I was using my wife's '99 Century with it's 3.1 ltr motor. Plus I put a K & N filter in her stock airbox. After riding that for a bit and getting back into my blue beast, it was kinda like culture shock! There is no turning back.

ssesc93 10-12-2004 07:00 PM

Well, what I was thinking was more non car related, like women. Being with a woman is much much better than hearing supercharger whine.

opensourceguy 10-12-2004 07:11 PM

big news: holy crap I want my bonnie to be in the 14's also! I will probably only touch the 15's.. but hey a guy can dream!

 Naw, she is a real keeper. I couldn't have done better. She is very low maintainence. I consider myself the better blessed by the deal. 8)

LakevilleSSEi 10-12-2004 07:27 PM

I agree with you there in my situation.....I got one of the greatest woman in the world by my side......I love it.

Well, maybe the sound of a 4.0L V8 could be included in that exclusive little club? Thanks :P

Agreed....boost rules!!!
in my oppinion its only cheating if you add boost to a car that didnt come with it...also the only true automotive cheat is N2O

Sol 10-13-2004 11:08 PM

I think my comment started a war.

phoenix_flame220 10-14-2004 12:17 PM

Anythign that leaves tire tracks and makes the scenery blurr is considered powerful in my book.

bonnieman92 10-14-2004 01:36 PM

5.7 liter V8 with a custom intake and a Flowmaster 80 muffler can make a guy happy! :P

opensourceguy 10-14-2004 03:09 PM

a 3.8L V6 bone stock, out of tune, and a slipping tranny makes me happy!

All this talk about women and Bonnies....so far, I have had my Bonnie for 3 months. I only had my ex wife (as a wife) for less than that. I got married when I was 22, divorced at 23, and at almost 28 still single. On the flip side, my ex remarried soon after the divorce and the guy left her a few months later...gotta love karma. Anyways, I had a Lebaron Convertable with the 2.5 Turbo four cylinder, and I really enjoyed hearing that otherworldly sound comming from it, then hearing the BOV when I let off of the gears (yes it was a 5-speed, and I am kicking myself in the arse for getting rid of it). I am looking for an SSEi and I have run into several here, but either the price was too high for what the car was or was totally trashed. Which is fine....I can wait. :pooper:
