Default How Much Is Too Much?

Hi Folks,

If you have seen the pix of my Bonne, I have 3 OEM 10-spoke wheels, with the gold-colored insets...they look very nice (see my photos). But I can't get past that ugly 4th wheel and want to replace it. These gold wheels are hard to find, as you can imagine. I have found a reconditioned one at an eBay store, but the guy wants $185 for it, shipped. I have seen the more common argent-colored wheels for less than this, but never the gold. BTW, if someone knows of one for sale here at the BC, let me know.

My question is simply, is $185 too much to pay for the wheel? How far would you go to get the full matched set?

Thanks,
John

you are correct, the Gold inserts in your style are hard to come by.... if you like that style, you also could check around junkyards to see if they have anything. I prolly would go with a different set of Bonne wheels if you dont come up with anything

BTW why do you need a new wheel?

Someone ran my wife into a curb a while back, which caused the wheel to be ruined. She ordered a replacement, but when she went to pick it up, instead of the gold you see in the photos, it was a cross between mustard and Ryder truck yellow. In the meantime, she had a alloy wheel from a Cutlass Supreme put on in it'* place. I'd rather hang with the gold if at all possible. I was quoted over $300 for new ones, and then there'* this reconditioed one for $185.

I would like to get one from a junk yard, but like I said, they aren't very common at all. I think they were marketed at the time as part of a "gold package".

Thanks,
John

I'm willing to bet that the reconditioned one will not match in color as well.

kinda, i have the 93 Dealer Brochure, and its just listed as a wheel option, similiar to how the Crosslace and the GG'*...only there were waaaaaay less of the Golds you have.

Have you looked in to straighting the wheel at all....i know there are a few places that do that sorta thing, depending on the damage of the wheel

Get me a picture of the good one and the bad one and I will check around here for you. I was quotes $60 for a wheel and tire at the expensive yard up here, but there are two others I can check. I've never specifically looked for that wheel, but can when I go next. If I find one that is close to your good ones, then I can grab it. Would probably come out to around $80-100 shipped depending on where I got it from.

Gunball...I have thought about that, also. They are guaranteeing a close match. I sent them a photo and they said that'* the one they have.

JimmyFloyd...If you look at my photobucket pix in my sig line, you can see a few shots of the wheels. Thanks for your help in advance.

1993SLE...The original is gone. In addition to it being bent, they told my wife it was cracked. This was before I met her. I would have kept it if it was me.

Thanks guys!

I love thoese wheels. I wish my car had those. I have the gold cross laces and I have one wheel that is real bad too, so I feel your pain. I would definitely try to ge tanother one of those. I don't feel that $185 is too terribly high, if you are confident that it will match. Check their feed back and see what kind of return policy they have if you are not happy. But, if a BC member can get you one at a bettter price (which someone probably can), I think that would certainly be the way to go.

Not to steal your thread, can anyone get a good deal on one good gold cross lace?

Thanks. I like them too; that'* why I would prefer to keep them. Not only do they match the Purple Pearl Exterior/Gold Interior combo, they are...well...unique. Hey...JimmyFloyd is on the prowl, so maybe he just might come through. I have looked at a couple junkyards around here though, with no luck.

Cheers!
John
