My car is dead (RIP Red Rocket)
 

So, last weekend my fuel line blew while I was driving but we were able to get it back home. My dad and I bought a new hose and replaced what we thought was the bad line. Unfortunately, we discovered that the line right near the gas tank (don't ask, my dad knows the correct terms) has pretty much rotted away. In order to fix it, we would have to drop the exhaust and gas tank and neither my dad or I have the time or money to fix a problem like this.

My car has about 135k miles on it and the paint is pretty bad so it's not really worth investing more money into it right now. I'm a junior in college and I'll be student teaching full-time next year and I need a very dependable car for that. I'm also very broke.

Solution: My dad was already planning to give me his 2000 SSEi when I graduated in another year so I'm getting it now. He's going to patch up my car as much as he can and trade it in for whatever he can get at a dealer (he's looking at a used CTS).

Granted, I'm very fortunate that my dad is giving me his car (only 60k miles on it) but it's just not the same, especially because it was my first car. I put so much work, time, and money into it and it's so sad to see it go.

That's really too bad. I understand your disappointment. It was a lot harder for me to part with my first car than I ever thought it would be. They always seem to hold so many great memories.

I could never let a car go just because of a failed fuel line. of all the cars I've had to do a fuel pump job on, my Bonneville has been by far the easiest one to do, lower the exhaust down and with a empty tank it can be down and out in 30 minutes.

I understand what you're saying but time is just not an option for my dad or I. He's an accountant who owns his own business and I'm busy with school so a car can't be out of commission at all. Also, the car has a few other issues and I don't have the time or money to mess around with it. I wish I did though.

If you were closer I'd give you $300 cash for it. :(

Sucks to trade it in to a dealer, I am betting they won't give you more than $50 for it, they only gave my aunt $50 for her perfectly fine '97 Saturn SL2 that was fully loaded with every option. They turned around and sold it for $4500. :x

No, should be able to get around $1,000-1,200 I'm guessing. My dad doesn't really care though because we just want to get rid of it. :cry:

Wow, that really is too bad. These Bonnevilles are really easy to take care of for the most part, so I'm sure it must be tough for you to get rid of your car because of a fuel line (and other things). Have fun with your new one though! Seems like it's nice, being a 2000.

Yeah, I agree. They are easy to take care of but mine is just having too many problems and I need it to be extremely dependable for the next year and I just can't depend on it anymore. My dad's, the one I'm getting, is a maroonish color. It's pretty nice. And of course still supercharged. :twisted:
