CARFAX for the new ride
Ladies and Gentleman!!!! I am about to take the leap and get myself back into another Pontiac Bonneville..........an SLE this time. I found a super clean 2002 with only 60K, Black on Black, leather, roof, BOSE and the nice chrome wheels.
My only concern is that it is so clean it is drawing question..........
It is at a local car dealership for $6K. Said he would take $5100. Super low miles!! Not a scuff on the rims, no creases in the leather and the back seat looks like it was never sat it.
I wanted to run a CARFAX but when I seen they charge $44.99 for 5......how silly. I only needed one. I am willing to send some cash to anyone who has purchased this and has not used all the 5 given to them. If not Im just going to do it Monday. I am taking the car tomorrow and bringing it back to him on Monday. That way it gives me the chance to see it I like it and have my mechanic look at it. I will post up some pics as soon as I get her tomorrow.
I am so excited. Noting compared to my SSEi,......and Im hoping this SLE will come in a close 2nd!

I just looked at Carfaxes website, you have the option of getting 1 for 34.99 and 5 for 44.99.
Insist that the dealer run the Carfax for you. If he bulks at the idea, then you know he knows something that he does not want to disclose. Dealers usually get a big discount on bulk Carfax reports. So, it cost him a lot less for him to buy then for us.

Bad news.......I went there today with cash in hand!!! Waived it under his nose.....and said I will only buy if I see the car fax. BAM!!! Salvage vehicle from Virginia!!!
He claims that he didnt know when he bought it from the auction. I gave him the benefit of the doubt so I had my mechanic look at it. The power seats didnt work, heated seats didnt work, SES, ABS, TC and brake lights on. My mechanic took the back seat out and lifted the carpet and there was sand and salt lines in the car as well as rust starting inside. Once on lift it look OK underneath but after looking at all those problems,......I took it back, with no cash of course!!!
The owner of the dealer ship escorted my father-in-law and I inside to his office, closed the door and tried to make a bargain on the car. He showed me all the dealership ppwk that he had $4700 in the car, couldnt sell me an extended warranty and he would assist me on getting a salvage title in NY since it was still titled in VA. Told me I could have it for $4000.
My dad laughed and said......I will give you $2500 or I suggest you take it back to the auction!! The guy laughed and said.......someone will buy it.
So.....the sad news is I am not the owner of another Bonne, but the good news it I didnt get ripped off!! I will keep my eyes open. I am kinda thinking to look for a GXP. Still regret selling my SSEi, but hey the Montana is still Pontiac Flagship and honestly I really like it. I'm gonna keep that for the winter and drive the Bonne in the summer!!

Dealships hate knowledgable people like you. U did a great job. I had a similar experience with my last purchase. My 1992 Bonneville SE. Bought from a private owner. I couldnt test drive due to blown out brake lines. About $2000 later.... car is safe and reliable. But MG92BONNIE ran a carfax on it. and it was bought at action and the milage then was upwards of 200,000 but when i bought it it read less than 130,000miles. Hmmmm. did the action write down the wrong number or did the previous owner roll it back? also was reported that the car went off the road and hit a tree. Nothing "major". but still unknown to me. Next time i will get a carfax before money in hand.

Scott...I'm glad you did the right thing and didn't get saddled with this car. There will be others out there...just keep looking and try to avoid a dealership.

Good job on pushing the issue with the stealership!!
On another note, if he openly said he was going to pawn it off onto another customer, use Craigslist to your advantage and post what happened. People HAVE the right to know in these circumstances.
