Does the Torque Converter Engage Twice?
At speeds below 55mph under light throttle my TC seems to engage twice. Say i'm driving 45mph w/o TC locup running 1800 rpm. At that time the TC "begines" to lockup. It wil drop to 1500 rpm quick, hold for a split second, then drop to the normal 1300 or so rpm. It feels like normal lockup, just in the middle of locking up it "lags". Is that the torque management doing its job or what? Is it nomal or not? :?

i noticed back when my aunt had her grand prix 3 years ago her car went from 3rd to 4th gear really fast then to TC. All around 37-40 mph. is that what your talking about? and under normal driving conditons?

Ok... This sounds normal..
The 65-E is a diffrent animal as compared to the 60-E...
The 45-E and 65-E are simmilar in the way they are controled... The TC in these transmissions is designed to be able to slip to a certain degree to allow the engine to spin fewer revs say in town tooling around without being fully locked up... The clutch material in the TC is designed to be able to tollerate the extra slip thats allowed... So it is variable...
It seems that the 45-E and 65-E can go into OD or 4th gear early on with the lock up clutch engaged... This promotes better fuel effiency...

Thanks. Great info jr's3800.! 
Glad to know minor slip is normal. The engine does "flair" 50rpm right before lockup. It wouldn't even be noticable to an average driver.

But will not do this at a low road speed... I'll bet if the 60-E could do this the fuel effiency around town would be higher...
