92 SSE series 1
I have owned my SSE for 8 years now- and have always wondered why this
engine doesn't have an EGR? . It seems that all the other years do.

GM thought that they could design an engine that didn't need it. The EGR prevents NOx emissions. Unfortunately they learned that not having one burns out the valves on the engine and put it back in 1993.

92 SSE engine
So- you are saying that because I don't have an EGR on my 92 series I engine,
that I can look forward to burnt valves? I already have 102k on it? I hope that
isn't in my future? DAve

I guess I won't get too worried about it then. Everything is fine now and I have done
oil changes every 2k miles since I bought it in 95. The motor is in excellent condition
and still runs like new. Even if there was a problem, this car is like new and would be
worth the repair if needed. Bonnevilles forever!!!!!

GM realized their mistake by half way through the year, therefore the 93'* had an EGR Valve back on regardless of Emission Testing results.

Best thing for you to do is buy a little insurance. Switch to the 180° thermostat and add a tranny cooler (yes, another one). This will buy you some time. Maybe prevent it altogether.

if you look at anyones engine from 93 on you should see a little black plastic piece. It'* a circular piece, with holes on the sides of it, i believe that is the EGR part, correct me if im wrong but thats what i remember from the repair manual..

As for before 89...the book is slightly confusing...plus I'm too tired to care right now.
