Round up a CB radio from somewhere. Need for a cellphone is obvious, but having a CB radio as well will let you talk to the local drivers on the interstate (truckers, mostly) and get some heads-ups on traffic jams, speed traps and stuff.

As for the car, you did check your _spare_ tire pressure too, yes? Also pull out the air filter for a look-see. If you know where your headlight adjuster screws are, and they're not seized up, tweak your headlamps until they're just the way you want them. Since you'll be spending a lot more time traveling at high speed, it'll be good to have your headlamps aimed as best you can for maximum range.

Um... Oh, yeah, fill up on windshield juice -- I think the underhood reservoir holds an entire gallon -- and see how your wiper blades look. Any old blades can probably clear the windshield in a regular downpour, but it'* the annoying need for low-interval sweeps where failing to clear the glass in one wipe can drive you absolutely nuts after a while.

Fill it up with gasoline before you go.

The black round things under the car should be checked too. :P

I was thinking the same thing. I just did 1800 miles round trip a few weeks ago in my '86 Trans Am, and I checked the oil and tire pressure before I went. I do 400 miles round trip about twice a month and I check my oil before I go and thats about it. But I also know that my tires don't leak air and I check them visually before I leave.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.
