Default Winter Wiper Blades

MA got its first snow this morning right about when Rush hour started. Its time to buy winter blades.

What type of winter blades do you buy for your car? Are there any brands better than others?

The only difference I noticed is that they are covered more on top of the blade to prevent them from freezing up when driving. Snow and Ice can build up in the wiper blades and cause them not to work, which is when you take your snow remover and bash the heck outta them to knock off the frozen crap, slamming your windsheild in the process, because you cant really get a good angle on it. lol

Heres a pic:

I bought a set one time, and will not bother with them again. I did not find any advantage to having them. They have that cover on them, all that does is make them catch the wind at highway speeds and lift off the window. Still have to scrape ice or brush heavy snow off the window first, and once that is done I think that a good regular set of wipers does a better job anyway.

Until Gillette starts manufacturing real Wiper Blades you are ALWAYS going to be scraping the ice off your windshield on those cold crisp winter mornings.
ANYTHING you do to help you drive through a severe snow storm will be to your advantage. Snow Tires are better than "All-Season" tires in the snow. Of course you will find that Snow Tires make more road noise at Highway Speeds and they wear faster (The Q Speed Rated tires) than regular tires.
I re-coat my windshield with Rain-X just before the temperatures stay below 60 degrees F and have used Winter Blades in the past. I find that, although they are not the absolute end all for driving through the worst of blizzards. I have found that they shed snow/ice for longer periods of time and it'* easier to remove the accumulated snow/ice that does form on the blades. Also, you may have found that your blades are stuck to the windshield the morning after a storm(assuming you have no garage to keep your car in at night). The Rain-X will make it easier to break the ice bond between the wiper blade and the windshield. And products like Prestone De-Icer washer fluid will help(as long as the washer oulets are free of snow/ice). :?

I had a bad winter last year when my regular wipers froze up and made driving very dangerous. The snow/ice would accumilate and I would litteraly have to reach around with my snow brush and smack the wipers to knock off the ice.

Catching the wipers mid wipe and letting them slap against the windsheild didnt help much, so I was wondering if anyone had any prefferences to winter wiper blades.

I'm thinking they would help with the freezing issues that I had last year, or I hope at least.

On the Eclipse, I was able to pull up the wiper arms up off of the windsheild so when it snowed, then froze, I didnt have a hard time getting the wipers unstuck.
