Maintence questions and general musings
 

First I just got a 94 SSE about 2 weeks ago, not much maintence done to it other than oil changes every 3-5000 miles. The vehicle has 170,000 on it. When I got the car it surged and bucked in O/D, so after a coil pack and plugs and wires car seems fine. I just replace the coolant Saturday, and the air filter today. My main question is with 170,000 and you know how rumors and wifes tales go, will changing the tranny fluid cause the tranny to go out with that many miles or will it be fine. How difficult is replacing a front wheel bearing.

P.S. My friend just bought an 03 Mitshi Elcipse, the tires(Goodyear Viva 2) on the SSE are only 2 months old, new headunit(MP3 reader) and aftermarket speakers slight body damage from deer. Interior is a little rough but for $500 I think its a pretty good deal.

Its been my daily driver for the past two weeks, put the 03 to sleep for awhile. Just made the 4th payment and already put 10,000 miles on it. For some reason I kinda enjoy driving the 94 to the 03, there is just something about the way it drives that I think is more fun. The only thing I miss is the heated seats and moonroof on the 03. So for the ones that have owned multiple generations which do you like most.

If you drop the tranny pan and remove/replace the xmission filter, clean the pan and magnet, button it up and add new Dexron III Fluid, I cannot see how you could cause any harm to the transmission. BUT, it you get one of those transmission flush jobs where they hook up a couple of hoses to the transmission to flush out ALL the old fluid, that's where you could have a problem. We've had members here do there first xmission oil change after 200,000 miles so you're about due.

As far as replacing the front wheel bearings go. They are not too difficult. The most difficult part was getting the big bolt off the axle. A large friend with a big breaker bar is a nice thing to have.
