Default bonneville bonestock and abuse

Ok fellows as a gearhead myself, building on everything from 64 Implias to new Mustangs. I have a hard time believing that a car built as the bonneville is is concerned a Racecar. How many of you feel that a bonestock Bonneville ssei )no Mods( is a car that can hang with such cars as the Camreo Z28, T/A, Mustang, Vettes, and other car built to flat out run the the 1/4 mile.
I know there are ways to mod anycar to run against muscle cars. But is the Bonneville a car built for that purpose from the factor? Or do you think the ssei was built to have the power of a small v8 for a short time ,example passing then to back off and resume a normal cruising speed?
Sorry for this Question I dont mean to downgrade your cars, they are great cars. I just dont want to see someone abuse their car to the point of failure, because they believe the ssei is meant to race against muscle cars or any other sports car built for the purpose of speed and power.

Obviously a STOCK SSEi won't be able to hang with the big boys but we have several daily drivers running 13s and even one in the 12'*. As long as the car is well maintained and has had some transmission work done, I'd say it'* very reliable AND fast

Edit - the "bonestock" transmission in these cars would be the biggest weakness in terms of reliability.

Yea this is a stock SSEI. And the Driver abuses it all the time and is dangerous because he thinks it is a NACAR or ready for the dragstripe. I just dont want someone to ruin a fine car or kill someone because they have car built it. I understand that Pontiac has some great cars and can be made to run hard and fast I love T/A and Gm cars in Gen. Please Please dont get me wrong here guys, I am trying to really help someone and make him understand he does not have a sports car but a luxury car with some power. And save him from either ruining his car or worse, cause it is a REALLY nice car. Just because it says Supercharger does not mean get it out on the track and smack talk.

what do you drive Die?

just making conversation...

and on topic - an SSEi can take a whole LOT of abuse, look around here, most of us drive hard, and our cars do not suffer that much because of it, especially considering its a "luxury car"

Honestly, as long as things are done correctly (stressed for a reason), there is no reason why the car can't be run at the track and be competitive.

Well if I am out to race I drive a 81 Modified Z28 with a 383 stroker. If I am going to work a family car. I am not trying to start a flame war. I know that my carthat is built for normal driving and families is not a race car and I dont claim it to be to ppl who race every weekend and build cars and motors. Nor do I go out on the roads and drive like I am in a race against everyone who I pull up to at a stoplight. I am saying I dont most think ppl think sports car or muscle car when they think of a Bonneville nor do I think it was designed to be one. If it was why did Pontiac not put the 3800 Supercharged engine into Firebirds and save money only building one motor.

Die...is this friend a member?

Just more conversation...

Many of us have modified our cars to run further, faster and better. Overall the bonneville was designed as a family car. The SSEi was designed with more in mind. Different suspension, different motor, different body cladding.

Afterall..it shares the same middle of the bumper fog light setup as some of the firebirds.

Is the Bonneville a race car? No.. Are most cars produced race cars? No..

Can you make anything a race car if done properly with enough money.. You bet.

IMHO firebirds and mustangs are far from "race cars" as well. However it is pretty sad that a mildly modded L67 Bonneville can keep up with a STOCK LT1 Firebird and run just as if not more reliably. Lets keep in mind ONLY auto transmission facts here, once the tranny goes stick, i think it completely changes the dynamic

Could you explain what prompted these questions?

Seems odd to come out of nowhere and ask these lines of questions without reason.
