Default Uh-Oh!!! Sounds like an old VW bus under my hood!!!

Coming from the left front of the engine, near the EGR valve, but down below it. Some old oil on the block, but I can't see much and can't find it with the stethoscope/screwdriver. :( :? Just started sounding like this about 10 minutes ago.
I picked up some new TR55'* today, but won't be able to change them until tomorrow as my brother-in-law has my spark plug socket.
Going to check the coils now.

Changed the spark plugs (NGK TR55'* -.056") and o2 sensor (AC-DELCO AFS75) today and it'* still doing it. Gas mileage improved from 12-14'ish up to 23mpg on a 90 mile trip.

I did notice the Purge solenoid on the evaperator canister is clicking also quite abit while idling. I was getting a Check Engine light anytime the car sat and idled for any amount of time -5 seconds is all it took. Now after the new plugs and o2 it comes and goes while idling, but it takes alot longer. I also ran 1-1/4 gallons of Toluene (put in when there was about 5 gallons of 92 octane left in tank) through so hopefully I got a bit of my fuel system cleaned.

Next weekend I'm going to take the EGR off again and see if I can clean it. Hopefully my Factory service manuals show up this week also.

Why don't you just unplug the EVAP and EGR to see if the ticking goes away. You will throw a code for both of them BUT if it is one of them, it should stop if they are not plugged in.

I unplugged the EGR, but not the Evap can. because the sound is coming from closer to the block. Basicly what I can tell is it is coming from directly forward/down of the TB, but still can't pin-point it exactly. One thing I kinda wonder is if there might be good sized crack on the bottom of the manifold/crossover in that area. I am going to have to get my retractable mirror out I guess.

Yeah, realized that when I popped the hood on mom'* 93 Ultra and listened to that run.
I kinda knew it wasn't the purge solenoid on the evap can because the clicking was way quieter than the noise I'm hearing.

Check the flange from the crossover to the rear manifold. Tighten it.
