LE, SE, SSE, SLE, SSEi??? What are the main differences?

Question was probably covered in another thread but I can't find one....

So what are differences between the LE, SE, SSE, SLE, SSEi?
and particularly, what does the " i " in SSEi stand for?

SE - "Sport Edition"? is he base Bonneville in all Years. It can have more options then most other cars in it's class, but it can't have all bonneville cars. It has the stock body with fog lamps on the outside of the bumper, and full colored tail lamps.

LE - I don't know much about them, but i believe it is much like the SLE package but for older 87-91 Bonnevilles.

SSE - First introduced in 1988 as a sportier bonneville, the SSE has many distinct things. The foglamps in 92-99 gen are in the middle, it has lower body effects, and dual exhaust. It also has blackened tail lamps, and options like a HUD, 9 way seats, you name it you can get it.

SLE - "Sport Luxury Edition" At first was an option group for the SE's it later became the trim level that replaced SSE. All bonnevilles today are SE, SLE, or SSEi (GXP soon to come, but not soon enough for some of us) The package started in late late 93 (like mine) and that year included the sport exhaust (dual on one side). It had chrome trim, buckets, full dash, spoiler, the new grill style, over head console, ghetto cross lace rims.

SSEi is the premier bonneville. It comes with an L67 supercharged engine, and many many options standard. It began with the new body style in 92, and the first year of the supercharged 3800 engine. It is supposedly being replaced by the GXP, the first v8 powered bonneville in almost 2 decades...

Note - All Trim levels after 92 had an option of getting a supercharger. They are very rare though, and if you get say an SE with a supercharger you'll have performance shift buttons, but no boost gauge. One moderator here has one, and a few members and many new ones are showing up.

Only the SLE has a meaning. THe SE, SSE, SSEi don't have any meanings. THe SE is the base car the SLE is a packaged SE from 94-95, more so a supt up SE, an SSE is a fully loaded SE with no supercharger and tthe SSEi is the top of the line Bonneville. The SLE from 96-99 had the SSE looks on the outside exept for the silver trim outlining around the doors and no load leveling. THe interior looks just like an SE. More to come in this search, I like this topic. The "i" at the end of an SSEi is an just an option, meaning your car is fully loaded from any bonneville and is supercharged. LE they have the 150 or optional 165 hp engine I believe and is made from 1987-91, the SE is the more sporty type with bigger tires, rims and a full instrument cluster. From 87 to present is covered in this thread

SLE began in 93, and is VERY rare. It was the only SLE year to include the special exhaust seen (well more heard then seen) on my vehicle. I have the correct RPO code for it and all, and i have an official 1993 car. Mine's getting rarer (s that a word) by the day... I think i'm gonna go try to straighen up my air damn now.

I keep typing 94 for some reason when I know they started in 93. Are you sure they don't have boost gauges in those cars?

Not all SSE and SSEi modles are fully loaded though. I was at my dealer the one day and saw and SSEi in for repair that had cloth seats, and I saw an SSE with no traction control there too, while my SE has leather and traction control...go figure.

I should say that the SSEi ihas the supercharger in it then on ALL of them. My SSE is one that doesn't have the traction control in it.

95BonnieSESC95 our moderator doesn't have a boost gauge.

ssesc93 08-05-2003 08:39 PM

I wonder why I have it and he don't. There goes GM again. Never fails....never fails.

You have a fulll DIC and stuff for the SSE. He has the full SE dash, but a coolant/oil pressure etc gauges.
