keys stuck
hi i got a 1991 chevy cav, and the keys will not turn to the off pos. so i can get the keys out . also the car will not stay running when trying to restart it . as soon as the key clicks back (after starting it) the car dies instantly , if it helps its a automatic and the 2.2l engine only has 70k on it as well (old person car ) need help asap thanks

As far as the keys not coming out, I think that the car might still be in gear or at least the lock cylinder thinks the car is still in gear.

I had the same problem with my buick lesabre..My key had been grinding itself down to almost nothing and i got to somebodys house once and had the same issue i had to run to town and get a new ignition cylinder and replace it
|
had the same problem with my grand prix
my steering column had a hole n the buttom of it, i used to insert a screw driver, push the little button inside amd it used to release the key. after a while it was a pita and i got sick of it i took the steering wheel column apart and tapped the button with electric tape lol it worked!! |
on this 91 chevy cav there was no access hole on it to release the key .dose anyone have pics of removing the shifter cover and what i should be looking at once i get there ? is there a linkage that gose from the cylinder lock and the shifter? it makes sence that thats why keys wont come out and ive heard that before on gm's but never delt with it before . thanks for the help so far guys

to remove it yu have to take the sterring wheel off and all the plates behind it....just to get to the 1 maybe two screws holding it in place....
|
is this the lock cylinder ? i looked at autozone web helper thing and it says i need to use a paper clip to remove the switch clip thing after removing a frew screws and the steering wheel
|
never had to use a paper clip for anything but code reading....but that completly diffrent
