Default Winter slush causing overheating

My last two trips over the pass to Eastern Oregon I noticed my car overheating. In excess of 220°. I'm running the 180° Stat and dual tranny coolers. I think I found the problem on the second trip, return leg. I had alot of slush from the falling snow built up on the front of the car, blocking the gap between the lower part of the grill and the front bumper. This is a relatively small area, but as soon as I cleared it and started driving again, it dropped down below 200°.

Anyone else ever see this problem?

There has been two small storms in Michigan, and usually my car gets full of snow. It has gotten hot, but not that hot. It usually cools down after it reaches that point.

But yesterday, when it was totally clear out, I was getting around 220, which kinda scared me, cause it took a while to go back down.

I never get this in the City in the summer. Only in the snow when that little slit between the hood and bumber is slushed up. I didn't think that little area would make that big of a difference.

Yes Pooky, we did. Now our little secret is out of the bag, isn't it? You're not getting my car when I die. I'm being buried in it.
