Default Transmission Question!

Mmmk, so I'm looking at a chevy 350 for my car. It came out of a '78 or '79 1-ton van and has some RV cams on it. He rebuilt the heads at 90k miles and then took it out. It'* a 4-bolt main and everything should fit fine..

Now, the question is... What IS my tranmission and can it handle that kind of an engine? On my car the only aftermarket mods on it are for exhaust, so the transmission should be stock.

For those of you who dont look at my sig.. my car is...

Your tranny should be fine for it. if it bolts up to a 305, it should line up with a 350 just as good. same reason a 2.8 RWD tranny fits a 3.4 tranny, it'* the same basic block, you just have bigger bores now.

RV cam huh, lots of power down low..., 4 bolt will outlast anything! I can't recal exactly what tranny # you have, only auto (assuming auto) i can think of is a 700r? Do you have the owners manual?

If you have a 305, then you most likely have the 700R4. A 700R4 will bolt up to a Chevy 350.

Chances are if you have the 3 speed, than you most likely have a Turbo 350 tranny, if you have the 4 speed than you most likely have a 700 R4... And either of these should bolt right up to that 350 4 Bolt main... <---- These are rare
Awesome, looks like I'll be getting the 350 then..
