Hey everyone, I am wondering if anyone uses Seafoam in there cars. Ive bought a can or two in the past year and only added it to my gas tank. I read on the can that you can add it to your oil and also one of the vaccum lines. Ive watched a few youtube videos and it looks like lots of people are writting different ways on doing it for each video.
I read somewhere online earlier that you need to warm up the car for 5 minutes and turn it off, and put a third of the can in with the oil and the rest I put in the gas tank. I let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes while putting gas in my car and then took it down the highway. It said I should see smoke coming out of the exhaust, but I didnt notice any coming out..
I just got home from driving it for 30 minutes down the highway. I also seen that in the video it says to turn on the car and dump a third of it in the brake booster line and then spray some in the throttle body..
I want to go buy another can to add it to the booster line, if that is where it belongs to go on my car, and add some to the throttle body..And then after about 50 miles of driving Im gona change my oil..

Could someone let me know the correct way to use it in all areas on my car. I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 non supercharged??
Or even a step by step process would be great!!!

The typical usage is 1/3 in the gas tank, 1/3 in the oil and 1/3 in the intake. The first 2 is pretty obvious on how to put it in. But getting it into the intake can be pretty tricky and it really depends on the engine. Some engines that have a vertical throttle body is easy to dump into(carb'd engines anyway).

With the 3800, disconnecting the brake booster vac line from the booster is a good way to do it. It might take 2 people to do this because you could accidentally stall the engine while disconnecting the vac line.

1. Get engine GOOD and warm.
2. Have someone get in car to start it for you when needed.
3. Disconnect the vac line and cover at least 90% of the hole with your thumb to prevent engine stalling.
4. Start engine and start pouring the last 1/3 of the can into vac line. Now the trick here is to try and dump in the last part as quick as possible to stall the engine, or at least yell at your second driver to shut it off, otherwise, the Seafoam will burn right out before it gets a chance to do anything.

Its a thick, rubber hose that connects to the brake booster.

I found your other post about Seafoam. This section is perfectly fine for what you are asking. I've already disposed of the other one.

I bought another can today and put two thirds of it in the gas tank, then I put a funnel in the brake booster line and added the other third of it slowly and at the end I dumped it in quick and it stalled the engine and a cloud of white smoke came out of the hose. I then left it turned off for about 15 minutes and then started it up. It took about ten minutes for all the smoke from the tail pipes to finish coming out. I then drove it for about 15 to 20 minutes and then went back home and changed the oil which was black..I then went to the gas station and added gas to go from a quarter of a tank to almost a half of tank of gas and then drove it to a friends house which I was able to set the cruize control to 55MPH for about 25 minutes. I took it on the highway and punched it and after it reached around 80 MPH the check engine light flicked on and off...

It could of been misfiring due to the rich mixture of Seafoam in it. Just as long as the CEL does not flash, it should be fine.

Assuming your engine didn't misfire under heavy load before the Seafoam, then what Mike said. Two-thirds of a can is a little much. Dilute it by filling the gas tank, or if you have already, keep topping it off until your engine is happy.

But hey, at least it'* cleaning on the way through. There are worse things you can run through your engine.

I noticed before adding the seafoam that the car would sputter after getting on the gas peddel from a stop. Also when I was on the highway and when I was going 55mph I then gave it some gas and it puttered. Its now been 4 days and its till puttering when on the highway. I added 35 bucks in gas two days ago which put it past a half of tank. Is the seafoam still working and thats what is causing the sputter? I seen that they sell a spray can to spray in the throtle body. Would that be a good idea to get to use? Should I get another can and add it to the vacuum line again to see if it clears what ever else is in the gas thats making it sputter? Or put more in the gas tank?
Does the car use more gas after adding sea foam to the gas tank? I read a article that after adding sea foam to the gas tank that it will use more gas..Gas price is to high to add more sea foam if thats the case...
Also, how can you tell if the EGR Valve and the PCV Valve need changed to a new one..
