Funny you mention that. GM is replacing the lower intake gaskets on my mom'* 2003 Alero. 3400 with 39,000 miles. Out of warranty, but if you complain enough, they'll see your side of things!

That might be, but as with any recognized maintenance item, the intent is to change things before they become a problem and potentially cause issues elsewhere. Thus the term "preventive maintenance". Mine had 125K + on them when they went, but I think I'll change them again at around 200K.

IMO, the new aluminum based gasket set from GM may be a permanent fix, but only time will tell.
