Instrument clusters

Currently my 97 SE only has the typical stock cluster. I would like to upgrade it to the SSE style cluster. Aside from having to get a another dash, will the upgraded cluster just swap over? Or will other things be needed?

I did a similiar project a few years ago with my wifes 2002 Neon. To go from a stock cluster to a better cluster, all's I had to do was swap them. They were completely interchangeable.

Unfortunately it won't just swap. The lamp monitor and other DIC stuff is on a seperate connector that an SE won't have in the wiring harness.

Not 100% sure, I think the main connector is different as well.

Since you like projects.... it may be possible to use most of the stuff w/o the DIC lamp monitor if you swapped dash wiring harnesses. You might have a little rewiring to do if you have the manual HVAC controls. I'd say spend some time with an FSM and try to determine the feasibility before buying parts or starting into it.

Thanks Bill, I'll try and look at the 95 FSM, but I don't think it will help me much because of the year difference. BTW, I do have the auto climate control.
