inflator in trunk

hey all how does this work is it for the tires or what and how do i get it to work
?

sonoma_zr2 05-08-2007 11:27 AM

with the ignition key in "run" or "accessory" position , hit the "on" button in the trunk, to the right of the trunk latch. if you don't hear the compressor run, you have a problem. We can further diagnose from there. Also search for "elc" , there are plenty of posts on this.

didn't see your year, please put in your profile. 92-95 doesn't require a key on to work, 96-99 do.

This isn't a mechanical problem. Moved to General Chat.

There should be an air hose with guage in your accesory kit, you can use it to fill tires. very handy ;)

Mine has been in 3 times to get it fixed it still doesnt work currently at GM right now. What are the benefits to having it? Just filling up tires and footballs?

the system is also used to regulate the rear ride height. (elc)

well, the pump goes on I hear it every once in a while. Its in the rear passanger side it sounds like. It just wont work to fill my tires.

yup, behind the right rear wheel. on the 92-99, there is a selector valve that directs air either to the rear shocks or the valve in the rear deck.. I imagine the 2k's are the same , just can't say for sure. when you hit the on button, do you hear a click? that is the relay the moves the selctor valve. if you don't , you might have a bad relay, or no power to it.

Right and wrong. It's in different places on both of his cars. On his 95, it's under the hood. ;)

the compressor works good for blowing up tires. i've used mine before. i didn't know about the adjustment for the air shocks tho. does my 89 also have that and if so where?

thanks, bil

jdq 05-09-2007 07:35 AM

Yes it does compressor is under the hood behind the driver head light.

BillBoost37 05-09-2007 07:47 AM

We should mention.. This is a low volume high pressure compressor. Since it was designed to pump the struts. It will pump up a tire.....but you'll want to grab a beer while waiting.

GXP_Vince 05-09-2007 01:10 PM

soooo GM still has my vehicle- the modulator in my backseat is not getting power to it for some reason and they will be replacing the modulator. Even though my warrenty is out they should be fixing it for free since they started working on it before the warranty expired.

bil 05-09-2007 05:29 PM

actually i would say at LEAST two beers and a snack but it does eventually inflate the tire.

sorry if i'm being extra thick today ( must have been the beer while blowing up a tire ;) ) but there is a switch on my 89's compressor to direct the air to the struts? cause if i run it just as an inflator it doesn't seem to make a difference in ride height.

That's funny... I went to fill up my kid's basketball with the GXP inflator and it wouldn't work. I cussed up and down and threw a fit. :x I went over to the old 95 and filled it up just fine. I didn't even think they would have changed it so you need the ignition key on the new one. Guess I should read that little book in the glove box.
BTW the key has to be turned to the "ON" position on my GXP. Needing a key is actually a pain if you use it for around the house stuff like I always do, I like the no key version on my 95.

did you check the elc fuse in the engine compartment? ground the yellow wire at the compressor, does it turn on?

need a little more to go on here.

no, it is a big green one, marked "ELC", in the maxifuse center by the firewall

wyattsmoma 05-11-2007 05:39 AM

Maybe she just wants a gentel Womans touch, I will try that today! Said Tire Shredders are going to kill her rear if I dont figure something out.
