in regards to pontiac grand am'* ive been curious as to why the transmissions are so weak ive had two a red 93 gt with a 3.1 and a green 96 se with a 3.1 and in both of them the transmissions went out and im not overly hard on my cars just my truck thats why i built it the way i did so itd last but i was wondering if anybody knows why grand ams have such weak transmissions its not just me cuz i have friends whove had em and theyre transmissions went out also??anybody know

not sure why but I too know a few people with grand am'* that have had trans problems

what is that trans just a peice of junk (well obviously) was it corrected in later years like the 2000 and ups or whenever the body style changed

well look at tthe 4t60s they can only handle 240hp the 4t40 is and even smaller trans and can only handle about 200hp the older ones you know im not 100% sure if they were this trans but i know the 99+ ones are and its not really strong enought for the gt'* with there 175/205 3400

it also seems to be hit and miss with n bodies entirely some konk out at 60k were others never do my moms has 114k and just had it first tune up the mechanic said the pkugs were still GOOD!

wow yah see myt 93 gt was kinda my fault it had a 3.1 and i got stuck in some mud in a parking lot one day and wile trying to get it unstuck i packed some around the tourqe convertor and cleaned it all out or so i thought and yewah my trans went out a week or so later but the 96 with a 3.1 just happend out of no where
