what is it talking about?
i recently got a fsm for my car off of ebay. (60 bucks shipped!)
anyway, while i was looking thru the manual, i notice it often refers to a scan tool. is there one certain scan tool its talking about or are there multiple scan tools?
also, could anyone tell me which scan tool(*) it is referring to, as in good brands?

Well the FSM is likely talking about the TECH 2 scanner that is most often used at dealers to scan any and all scannable parameters available.
It is unlikely you'll want to afford the $thousands$ you'd pay for a TECH 2, so you'll likely want to buy an aftermarket scanner. A good one will run you between $250-600, depending on what you are really wanting out of it, though you can often score one for less used on ebay.
As far as good brands:
Actron,
AutoXray,
Autotap,
others that I'm not too familiar with....

i would like to try and fix a couple of things going on with the electrical system, (i think). i've got some issues with the passenger side (yes both doors) not locking with the ddm or the actual lock on the door.windows dont work either. in the fsm it says to run scans and check for dtc'* as the first step to figure out whats going on. i was hoping to find a scanner capable to get those codes.
