I am stupid. Almost wrecked my car from my stupidity.

My friend and I were coming home from the career center we go to earlier. As I was getting onto the entrance ramp to the freeway (it is one that is a lane of the road and turns off, you don't have to stop and turn) and I was kind of showing my friend how much louder my exhaust is now that I took out the cat. So I just hit the gas to rev it up a little so he could hear it. Well at this point I am halfway down the entrance ramp going about 35mph and almost to 45 degree turn. Little did I know this turn was covered in ice, it looked like it was just water to me. So when I hit the gas to rev it a bit (it didn't nail it, I just got on it about 1/3 throttle), the front tires lost traction and the car wouldn't turn, so I let off and started to turn with the turn, but the back end was going too fast and it started to come around, so then I was seriously yelling "shit shit shit" while cranking the wheel the other way (exactly how I learned to in my video games. Who says video games don't teach you anything? I honestly believe I would've been in the ditch if it weren't for them!) and then the back end started coming around the other way. The whole time I was trying to decide which ditch would be the best one to go into if I couldn't fully correct it. At this point I am still trying to correct it, and after what seemed like was forever, about 4 or 5 times of the back end trying to come around in either direction I finally corrected it and kept going straight. My friend looked at me with a completely straight face and said, "its a good thing theres this oh shit handle over here." (we have a joke about the handle on the headliner being called the oh shit handle) Honestly neither one of us thought we were going to make it through that without ending up in a ditch. My heart was beating so hard I could hear it. I almost wanted to kill myself for being so stupid, my parents buy me this nice ass car and I go messing around and almost run the thing into a tree. I decided we would wait until spring to see what the exhaust sounds like. I think I will be riding the school bus for the next couple days to get over my stupidness. I don't deserve to drive a car.

hey, shit happens! Don't beat yourself up to much! I tore up my front fender when i took a corner to fast. I learned my lesson and continued! As long as you learned something from it, don't pause your life for it!

It happens to all of us....its almost like the first scratch on a new car....sooner you do it, the sooner you get over it and move on...good save though, long live video games..

I'm sure we have all done some stupid stuff when we were behind the wheel... you ended up fine so that is all that matters. :)

Damn nice save Shawn! Glad you play video games! :D

I did something similar in my grandmother's old 90 Sable. Except I did a 180 with about 2 inches of snow on the road. Thank God no other cars were on the road, otherwise I would have freaked. But it was actually fun. I found out Iater that I was driving with the parking brake on

I entered an exit ramp without slowing down when i was testing a ram air system on my car...

I jerked the wheel, tires started to screech, i hit the brakes instinctively ( but not smartly, i know better) and the car drifted for about 3 seconds before i killed the drift... Never thought i'd do that on dry pavement in the bonnie. This was @ 10:30 pm and i woulda been going down the side of the ramp.... about 20 ft...

It happens, Trust me,
It will happen to all of us sooner or later, just a matter of time!
Now you know what you did wrong, be more cautious next time, thats all you need to remember!

which vehicle was this in??

1992 trofeo 01-07-2004 07:44 PM

probably his car... the ste...
smooth drivin... ice is a pain!! and a tip... if you ever drive a rwd vehicle and like to do 180s in winter... make sure theres no curbs... :? lost a rear end that way... on my old 92 dually!!

dbtk2 01-07-2004 11:25 PM

Yeah, I was in the STE. I can definately see someone loosing a rear-end by sliding sideways into a curb. I would imagine that probably sucks pretty bad. I know its not a real big deal or anything, but it just pissed me off that I was being that stupid. I am usually the one telling people that they shouldn't be messing around like that while driving when they end up in ditches. I don't usually do stupid (wreckless) things while driving because I know it is a stupid thing to do and that is how a lot of teenagers end up in accidents and even killed. I am over it, it just pissed me off for a little while that I was that stupid.
