good evening all!

i'm sure the subject line sounds strange but i have a couple questions regarding bonnevilles.

1) did ssei'* come with fiberglass fenders? i had a 92-99 ssei pull up beside me today at a light and there was a literal chunk out of the drivers fender. it made sense if it was fiberglass, but if it was metal it looked like someone had literally cut a section out of the fender. :?

2) this was something that was bothering me since last weekend on my own car and i just thought since i had the one question why not ask about the other even if it does sound kind of stupid. i got stuck on friday trying to get out before the plows with my 89 sse. as i was trying to plow thru the lot it started spinning quite a bit and all of a sudden the abs light came on. at the same time it felt like i was getting better traction. when i got to the street the light stayed on. i stopped the car and shut it down immediately. when i started up again the abs light was out. i've driven friends cars which had traction control (albeit RWD) and it was kind of similar. there is nothing in the owners manual about this so was i imagining things or does the car have some sort of rudimentary traction control??

Bil, all 92-95 Bonnevilles of all trim levels had PLASTIC fenders. They went back to steel in 96.

thanks for explaining about the fender. as i said, it made sense the way it looked that it was fiberglass, but i hadn't known that gm used plastic fenders.

as far as the traction control question, sorry for the wrong placement! i was going on the idea that since it was a general question (ie does it have it?) it belonged here. it'* on its way to the mechanical section pronto! i'll get the hang of it eventually!

You should have the TEVES brake system, it uses a hydraulic pump to charge up an accumulator which then applies force to the brake system when you push the pedal. Everytime you push the pedal its releases pressure from the accumulator. When the pressure drops a certain amount the yellow ABS light comes on and the pump turns on, then it goes out when the pressure raises back up. The ABS light can go on any time you pump the brakes. It has nothing to do with traction, it gets its signal from the EBCM. The light can be turned on by the normal leakdown of the system, or it could have just been a random electrical gremlin. You could check for a code in the system if you were really worried about it.

i guess i don't have to repost now, i have my answer! i'm not worried about a problem with the brakes as they are working fine. it was just the timing of the occurrence that had made me wonder if it had traction control. i know i had not touched the brakes, in fact had my foot on the gas to try and keep forward motion and had not been in a situation with the car before where i was constantly spinning the front wheels. usually she just pulls right thru! that was what had made me add 2+2 and obviously come up with 5!
