How many tickets???

So, most of us are modding our cars which means more power. More power means more speed. More speed means more likely to get BUSTED! So how many speeding tickets do you have (or have avoided  )?

amy_lynn 10-17-2002 11:56 PM

Actually not a TON, but enough. I only drive fast in areas where I know that there are no cops...except the time I had to flirt my way out of a ticket. But that's a different story.

sse1990 10-17-2002 11:59 PM

I've gotten off of as many speeding tickets as I've received, hmmm is there an option for that in the poll, LOL

Well, here's my stories:

1) I was doing about 110mph in the middle of no where so I could beat a huge storm back to where I was staying. I came around one of those long country cuves on a two lane highway just to see a county sheriff doing about 30mph the other direction right in front of me. :? I slammed the brakes on and so did he. By the time he got stopped and hot the gun up to get a reading I was passing him at 55mph on the nose! 8) He jast sat the until I was out of veiw behind him. I then took off again because I knew I would make my exit before he could ever catch up with me.

2) Going down the highway doing around 90 (also in a 55). There was a big dually Chevy doing the same in the next lane. We were both weaving thru traffic (which was pretty light) when I noticed him pointing back with his thumb. I had no idea what he was doing so I just ignored him and kept going while he slowed down. About a mile down the road two highway patrol came up behind me doiing over 100mph (no lights). When they got up next to me they slowed down and gave me a VERY dirty look, then took off again. Aparently they had somewhere more importantt to be. The guy in the pickup truck caught up to me about 3 towns later. He looked at me, smiled, and shrugged his shoulders. He knew I got REAL lucky!

3) I was on my way home (about 3 hours away yet) and I was movin pretty good. I came up behind this baby blue crown victoria. The CV had no lights that I could see but there was just something out of place about a spotless crown vic in the middle of farm country doing the speed limit to a T. So I hung back for a few minutes. Then I saw this new monte carlo comming up inthe other lane pretty fast. So I got to thinking. If I were to leave a big enough gap I bet they would just cut between us and keep going. So Idropped back and sure enough, came up fast, cut over, and took off. And guess what, the CV took off and started to pace the MC. About 1/2 mile later the car light up like a christmas tree. I guess it pays to be observant.

4) Going a little fast down a local city street when I was passed by a local cop going the other direction. I thought I was busted for sure when he pulled a U right behind me. Once he caught up he just paced me (I was not watching my speed). I took my turn and proceeded to follow the posted speed, maybe a hair less. He was riding my back quite closely even though the other lane was empty. Well, the next light I made it (legally) but the cop had to stop for the red. I went up over the hill and once I was out of sight I cut over two lanes and took the net exit, never to see him again.

5) Plain and simple. I was doing 47 in a 30 and the cop was comming the other direction. I was only 17 and I got busted. It's always fun telling your parents about the speeding ticket you just got. :(

almost done...

6) Leaving my buddies frat house, with two underaged drunks, at 1am on a weekend I hopped on the freeway to head home. I took the onramp and proceeded to cut over 2 lanes (no traffic comming from behind at all) to get in the lane I needed to be in a mile up the road. I put cruise on about 10-15 over the limit (yea, I know, I got a bad habbit of a lead foot). Traffic finally caught up a few miles down the road at the same time I cought the traffic ahead of me. The car behind me was riding me pretty close but there was a car to my right so I couldn't pull over, so I gunned it and pulled ahead. Once I was far enough ahead I changed lanes and slowed back to where I was. As the car that was behind me started to creep forward I noticed the highway patrol markings on the side. Seeing this I immediately took it out of cruise to let it coast down to speed. As soon as I did that he flipped on the cherries and pulled me over. To make an already long story short, I got a verbal warning and he didn't even notice my two passengers who were obviously not 21 and not even close to sober. Too close for me. At least I was sober.

Well let's see....hmmmmm....!
I've gotten 4 Photo Radar tickets in the last year totalling over $600 CDN! My highest was $195 CDN & just short of a court appearance too! You see I drive about 120km/hr to 150km/hr in a 100km/hr posted limit hwy! As for the city streets, I usually drive about 10km/hr over the posted limit or 70km/hr!

Wow, where do I begin with this?

1) 48 in 30MPH zone - my first ticket, 19 yrs old, home from college, driving with my best friend, in my father's Olds Cutlass. Nothing unusual about your first ticket, I guess.

2) 84 in 55MPH zone. Couple months after the first one. Late for work, 15 minutes away, driving my mother's Olds Custom Cruiser station wagon with needle buried (this in the day of 85MPH speedos.) Undercover state cop driving opposite way, races the 1/2 mile to the next turnaround and comes back to nail me. I swore up and down to the officer that I was only doing 70MPH ("before or after you saw me on the other side?" he asked.) Cop nice enough to write ticket for 70 in a 55.

3) 51 in 35 zone, Easter Sunday 1991, driving home from Grandma's with my sister. In a spot where almost no one gets pulled over, I pulled the death card.

4) 75 in 55, NYS thruway, on my way to visit my girfriend who lived near Buffalo. VERY nice cop, wrote ticket for "failure to yield to a traffic device" (in this case, the posted speed limit sign) and said "have a nice day!"

5) 50 in 30 - on my way to a date, with Metallica cranking in the car, didn't notice the TWO cops who were pursuing me. (Never did notice a radar gun in either car! Must have been paced....)

6) 78 in 65. This is the best one, only because I was pulled over in the town of "Rush" (a suburb of Rochester, NY.) How many people get to say that? "I was pulled over in Rush". "You mean you were pulled over while you were in a rush?" "NO, I got pulled over in RUSH."
Whatever. :shake:

Anyway, I've been let go 3 times and evaded numerous other tix. And, with the good fortune of having an in-family lawyer, I never have been convicted of speeding (only lesser infractions.) I've been infraction-free for 4 1/2 years - knock on wood.
I imagine, with the Bonnie, that streak will end sometime soon!

I'm glad they got rid of the photo radar around here.

The best speeding ticket I got was that I was on my way to Barrie for the day and I had my truck with an Alpine CVA-1000 ( has a video screen) hooked up to a VCR and I was watching days of thunder. I was stuck behind a slow car and it was a section with paved shoulders. I decided to pass the guy and as we came around the corner, just after passing him, in the middle of a bunch of cars was a cop. I hadn't had a chance to slow down yet from the passing. I seen him turn around and at that point I turned of the vcr, put the video screen back down ( it slides back into itself and looks like a regular deck), put the radio on and pulled over.
When he got to my truck, he look inside and was ammazed at what he saw. At the time the truck was done up for stereo competition and had 2 15's in it all customized ( done by me). He did bring the ticket down to something like 10 over or something but could have been worse had he seen the video screen ( not legal around here, since it's in view of the driver).
Sorry for the long story but it had to be the most memorable one.

95BonnevilleSESC 10-18-2002 12:39 PM

68 in a 45; Company Truck (straight truck) with hazmat placards
60 in a 55; Company Truck (straight truck) with hazmat placards
Violation of basic speed law: My mustang ate the rear bumper of a UPS Truck :x
55 in a 45; Thunderbird

I never contested any of them because at the time I was driving truck for a company with a zero tolerance for trafic violations.

Me in my Bonnie, my friend in his Saturn, and my other bud in his 75 Duster going to Stake and Shake at 11pm (don't ask!). My friend in the Saturn pulls up next to me at a red light on the 4 lane road through town. We start revvin' to have some fun, and nail it off the line. Of course I destroyed him, but we both knew I would. Well right after we did that I saw some headlights to the left across the road come on. This pair of headlights went right across the whole highway to get behind us. I thought nothing of it because my buddy in his Duster stayed back and blocked the view of whatever those headlights were part of. Well we get to the Stake and Shake shortly after and my buddy in the Duster gets out and says, "Did you know what that was behind you!?"
"What are you talkin' about?"
"The car that pulled behind us after you and Andy took off."
"No."
"A county Sheriff! I stayed behind to hold him back."
"Oh....thanks!"

I swear, whenever I am about to have some fun in my car there is a cop SOMEWHERE. Sometimes I see them, sometimes I don't. But whoever is riding with me points them out when I feel a little crazy. :?
