How long is a 4T60e-HD good for?

Just curious, want to know when I'm going to have to start worrying about the transmission. As far as I know it's never been abused. Opinions? Tranny has 130k on it.

dont be so sure of that.. car has mods...

mine went at 130...

how is your fluid?

Ryan 02-22-2006 12:19 PM

Mine has 210000 kms on it and shifts as firm as it did at 134000 (when I bought it).

Hans 02-22-2006 12:22 PM

l67 wise

on my ssei it went out at 132k and the previous owner had it rebult, at 155k when I got it it was getting rough again and slipping sometimes. most likely a torque converter related issue

on the lss-sc it went at 150k or so. diff failure.

BillBoost37 02-22-2006 12:22 PM

My 95 had 155ish when I sold it and it was strong as ever. Some New Yorker got a hold of it and splattered it in under 3 months with no mods on it.

BonneAlien 02-22-2006 12:43 PM

Mine is @ 125k and it is smooth as silk baby.

Boreas 02-22-2006 01:22 PM

Pfffft, I have the non HD and it has 200,400 miles, 13 years old, original transmission. Still works like the day it was bought. You have nothing to worry about unless it was never maintained.

You're not hammering your trans with massive torque.

First one went at 110k in the 93. The 95's is starting to go at 115k.

Ryan 02-22-2006 01:47 PM

Just did the conversion (to make it easier on you, aren't I nice?!) and 210000 kms is about 130000 mi.

SSEimatt93 02-22-2006 01:48 PM

111,000 miles in the SSEi.
the one in my old SSEi was still fairly good at 155,000 miles

96SSEi_tampa 02-22-2006 01:52 PM

107,000 on my 96 SSEi. It had a lot of torque behind it though.

Boreas 02-22-2006 04:11 PM

Damn you people pretty much MURDER your transmissions!

VigCS 02-22-2006 04:16 PM

Well when I get this SSEi I'm going to almost immediately put the biggest cooler on it I can. What's the biggest out there that will fit?

it already has a factory cooler on it, but alot have bypassed the rad and just run a 28000gross vehicle weight is the biggest that i have seen on the car

(when you replace the cooler give it to me)

No, our low-end torque is murder on transmissions. That's the difference between the L27 and L67.

captainmiller 02-22-2006 05:04 PM

I guess I can chime in on this. I have only 93,000 miles on mine. It does shift harder then the '89 ever did (but it has a brand new transmission), but nothing is wrong with it. I think I'm going to get it completely flushed for safety measures at the end of this week. Full service flush too, all the cooler lines and every drop of fluid changed. Nothing wrong with doing this right?

BillBoost37 02-22-2006 05:54 PM

Make sure you have a temp regulator if changing up in size on coolers.

Add to that the extra weight of a full optioned SSEi and it makes it even worse.

jwakamud 02-22-2006 10:51 PM

my tranny on my 96 se was perfect until my bro got hold of it. its dead now with 210k miles or so.

its840 02-22-2006 11:21 PM

i would say it all depends on how hard you beat on it....... if you drive like my grandpa does then it will last 200k but if you drive like most of us on here do then hmm 130-140 sounds about right.....

klystronik 02-23-2006 04:09 AM

mine is at 131k....still shifts great but really heats up when put in OD(past year or so)..i had the fluid/filter changed and after a few weeks it had a odd smell/burnt color...i may add an external cooler eventually..esp. being in the south and all...i really feel the tranny will go long before then engine...

BillBoost37 02-23-2006 07:31 AM

I would definately add an external cooler in your case. Heating up is very bad for the longevity of a trans.

MACDRIVE 02-24-2006 03:03 AM

VigCS,

Forgive me for milking your thread; but does anyone know which transmission is in a 2000 LeSabre?

BillBoost37 02-24-2006 06:24 AM

Mac...shame on you..lol
Probably a better question in it's own General or lounge topic. If it's not a 460 it won't see much exposure here.

4T65E.

Masterbm 02-24-2006 08:43 AM

Just for the record I pretty sure me 92 se has the orinigal tranmission still going strong mine car has 171000 miles on the clock. I mean to ever once awhile, but mostly baby it and change the tranmission fluid every 30,000 miles. Like the manual recommends I figure that gm most know what the car needs
