Default Hood project, v2.0

Was a nice day today, so I got started on the hood project v2.0 That'* right, I'm correcting some problems on last years job. I got a bad tube of epoxy adhesive. What a pain it was cleaning that up. Guess I didn't get it all. One part pulled loose, and other parts shrunk causing a uneven surface.

First things first, I had to dig the hood out. So out with the Vette.

You can see how uneven it turned out after the hot summer sun.

Off with the paint. Only taking off the wax, clear, and part of the paint. Not going down to metal this time.

Picked up all my paint, so I'm set there.

Hmm, wonder if this will work on my head.

Now you can really see where it pulled away.

Talked to the guy at the auto paint shop. He said always use 2 forms of attachment on hood scoops. So I'm adding rivets along with the body panel adhesive.

Hey Dan i don't think it'* going to move this time!!! that'* a lot of rivits!! other than the epoxy being bad what else do you think may have caused the separation? i guessing the heat did the wrinkling

Heat and vibration. that'* why they suggest 2 forms of attachment.

Nice work Dan. I put a hood scoop on my Camaro many years ago and used rivets, epoxy and fiberglass. I failed to insulate under the hood and eventually the engine heat got transmitted through the rivets and caused the spalling of the paint, etc.

I would highly recommend at least insulating under the hood and where the rivets run along the scoop area.

I figured with the amount of PMs I get asking about my hood, many members will want to see how it'* done. then perhaps make one them self. I had to laugh, I was sanding the hood when this guy walks up. You do body work? Ya, some. My girlfriend banged up the bumper. Hmm, I'm kind of booked right now, sorry. He was a truck driver and was making a delivery next door, saw me and walked over.

Just looked outside and the Lotus was parked by the shop, so I ran out there. Love that car. He just put new wheels on it, looks really nice.

I was kind of thinking about picking up some of that dynamat stuff. Wonder how that would work out.
