Try a little shot of WD40 on the key and insert it in to the ignition wet, that should loosen up any filings that might be binding up. If a few shots of that don't work, ya, you may be taking the lock apart.

Is the steering wheel locked into a tight position that would prevent the lock from moving? Try moving the steering wheel left and right while turning the key and see what happens.

Tired the lubricant and also tried turning wheel. The Haynes Book references turning key before the lock can be removed, but the key wont turn? Still not sure what to do next!

id jiggle the shifter, or hit it. My brother had the same problem with his grandprix.
he had to punch the shifter HARD if he wanted the key out.

That is a common GM problem and affects alot of the dash mounted ignitions. If the WD-40 does not work, you will have to have a dealer replace the mechanism. Our dealership charges approx $220.
