Default GM is in a sad state of affairs.....

Is it me or is GM slipping? A study just revealed that the thirs party vendors that auto companies contract with (stuff like accessories, electronics, seats, etc.) rated GM the lowest in terms of having a 'trustful' relationship. In other words, the companies that supply these parts (like Johnson Controls) do not trust GM as a company.

That'* kind of sad.

What is it about GM these days. A buddy just went shopping for a truck. He has a '00 Silverado. Nice truck. He has disc brakes in the rear. He went to the Chevy dealer to see what it would cost to trade up. He found out the new Silverados have drum brakes in the back. Nice cost cutting measure GM....

It'* sad they killed the Camaro and kept the Aztek....I know thats old news....

It'* kind of sad to see the 'ol General lose its traction.

Living in the Lansing area, there are quite a few GM factory worksers that live here, and they all tell me that GM wastes so much money on stupid things that it is amazing they are in buisness. Not only that, but the workers building the SSR only work like 1 week out of the month because there is no demand for them, so they are getting paid a months pay for 1 week of work. They need to make some big changes quick, or they just might not be around in 20-30 years.

You can thank the Unions for that.

But I agree, things must change for GM to stay above water. Other Unionized manufacturers can manage to keep their workforce busy....GM should be able to, too.

Saw on the news last night that GM is going to start selling their cars at employee discount prices to everyone. Not a good sign.

If you live around the Lansing area all the dealers will sell anyone a GM car at employee price already...they've been doing that here for a while. Although they might as well anyways because anyone around here has a friend that can get them one anyways. IIRC we paid ~$28k for the SSEi new. I know the GTP stickered right at $30k and we paid $24k for that.

And yes, the union is to blame for a lot of their financial problems.

Ya GM isn't doing so hot...rumor is they are gonna drop a line of cars. I wouldn't worry about Pontiac because its got that "Young kid" appeal going on, which is what Cadillac seems to be doing now too. So I suspect Buick is gonna go bye bye...

And a car you could work on...didn't have to take the motor out to replace a simple part.

Anyone know what the recent sales volumes are (units or dollars) for buick vs. pontiac? I know popularity varies by region, but I'd have to say in my area, I see way more newer buicks than newer pontiacs. Also, I see alot more loyalty in buick owners, I'll see a 4 or 5 year old buick in someones driveway, next month there'* a new buick there instead. I'll see a 4 or 5 year old pontiac in someones driveway, next month there'* a new chrysler or import or chev there instead.

Based on what I see in my area, if GM drops a line, it will be pontiac.
