Help with next mod...

I'm going to be vague for a while, so please bear with me...

I'm working towards my next mod and need to add a switch to the interior of the car. I will only go ahead if I can find placement in the car which maintains the OEM appearance.

I would prefer to have a status light (which I'll have to build some electronics to control) and maintain backlighting. My big problem is that I will need to change the symbol on the front of the button. There isn't one from another GM vehicle which is suitable. Has anyone ever changed the symbol on a switch successfully (as described above)?

There is no pontiac button for this option as it was never available in the Pontiac line-up. I'm contemplating an attempt to modify the Traction Control button and am curious of others experiences.

Also, does anyone know if there is an alternator available with more than 140 amp generating capacity available for the GXP?

ok , i have been thinking long and hard about adding buttons to my car too, for various things.....

i have spent about 5-6 trips to the Junkyard finding and collecting switches from almost every Pontiac that is in production

looking in the Interior of the 00+ Bonnevilles, there is not a button that is rounded, this poses a problem because there are alot of Pontiac Switches that are square or have a square appearance to them.

Here is what i have come up with

ETS Switch off a Sunfire. the switch is a momentary, and has a nice small rounded edge body that would flow well with the Bonneville

Fog light off a 99+ GA...the switch is a latching so it makes it a little easier....again, this switch is EXACTLY the same as the Sunfire ETS switch, but has an indicator light built in.

as for changing the lettering, i have not as of yet...i have tryed and it has not went well...pretty much a totally failed attempy
....you prolly would need to get a sticker of somesort and apply it on...that is the only way that i can see it working

me personally, once i get the Fog light symbol and the ETS lettering off, i will leave the switches blank and go from there

PM me what you Doing Darcy, im always interested ;)

Darcy.. have you found a suitable button from another vehicle outside of the Gm lineup?

Hey Bill,

No. I went searching through eBay last weekend (almost 7,000 listings) and found some which didn't seem to look terribly "out of place". They didn't have have indicators which is kind of important. The system I'm working on must be disabled dependant on a specific condition and I want to turn the lamp off if the system is unavailable.

An indicator can be tapped off the fitting switch and used as an LED with a small drill hole through plastic where appears to be a factory indicator. The swtich is more important as usually it's impossible to change writing or the way one was made.
