Looked at a 95 SSE instead of the Caprice
Well I was supposed to go look at a 1993 Caprice last night but before I was about to leave my wife basically said it would be the Caprice or her. In other words she would not be caught dead in one. Oh well.
So instead I looked a 1995 SSE with 130,000 on it. He wanted $2600 but I talked him into $2000. It has the normal intake leaks and needs a set of rear tires and a front brake pads. Nothing major. I figure I can do pads/rotors, tires and a hitch for $500.
He also told me that the traction control has not worked for a couple years. I am not really concerned but was wondering what the common problems associated with the traction control are?
Since I only do about 5000 miles a year I am not real concerned about the car having 130,000 miles. I just need to get back and forth to work a couple miles and then use it to pull our 4x8 utlity trailer on occassion. All the bells and whistles will be fun but the main concern is basic transportation.

That doesn't seem too bad for an SSE.... What kind of shape is it in?

Wow...A 95 SSE in good shape for $2000 with a few minor issues... I'd hit it...

I am highly considering doing the intake if i get it. I have a buddy who has been Buick tech for 20+ years calling me back with a price to do it at his house.
It is just as well my wife does not like the Caprice. Then I can hold out for a 94-96 with the Vette motor. I have already decided that the next car purchase in 2 or 3 years will be either a 94-96 Caprice V8 or a 97-99 Bonneville SSEi. I figure the prices will be down around $3000 for those cars by then.
These Bonnevilles are adictive when you consider the price and content and value. I am even trying to persuade my brother to sell his 2001 Hyundai Elantra for a $5000 Bonneville.

I managed 33mpg in my full size car, trunk loaded down, tugging on at about 75mph... Once I hit the warm weather, and later lots of rain, I ended up still pulling 30-32mpg with the AC running...lol... He was supprised that my big car could get that milage on the road.. Now imagine if I had 2.84 gears instead of the 3.06...lol
