Question Have you ever?

have you ever had two of the same kind of cars one with a diffrent gear ratio than the other and noticed how much slower one is....
My current bonne is a dog on takeoff campared to my 94 bonne the 93 is way quicker to accel from 70 but holy crap its a dog taking off my 93 has a 3.06 where as my 94 had a 293 ..But i swore the higher the number(lower ratio) the better the takeoff or more power on low end with less top end ..Or maybe that only applies to vehicles wiith rear ends?

I'm pretty sure my 9C1 takes off faster (marginally) than other impalas, and it also drinks a good amount more fuel as well.

As far as the the truck with 4.11, the tall gearing will do that, the 2.90 has short gearing, so it causes it to take off, can't explain the middle one being a dog, maybe it doesn't have as powerful an engine as the others? Tall gearing causes slow acceleration and higher fuel economy. I know that most W bodies with the standard geared trannies go into 2nd at around 40 mph, while mine shifts at 20-25. As you probably know, you get the most power (torque maybe? sorry if I'm using the term incorrectly) in first gear (well, other than reverse, which is really tall relatively on any car, and teh reason why its the easiest way to get out of snow nice and slowly) so that may explain why your plow can plow a mountain yet still only shifts at 50+ mph.

This car runs just as great as my 94 did..And my plow truck has 4.11 because it used to have 38.5 tsl boggers on it..But compare bubba to the plow
Bubba 3.42 with stock tires..19 hwy mpg 70 mph at about 2100 rpm
Plow 4.11 with stock size tires 7 hwy mpg at 55-60 mph bout 3500 rpm...

tires have alot to do with your acceleration and mileage, and the difference between 293 gears and 306 isnt hardly noticable i wouldnt think, but if you compare my sse to my fatherinlaws 96 se he has heavy 15in steels with alot more rubber but they are narrower than the sse'* alum and low pro'*. they feel close enough in acceleration but mileage is about 5 better on the se.
