I am looking to put HID'* on the Grand Am and maybe the Bonneville. Can I get some info. from members who have them...Where ya got em...how you like em and stuff like that!!!

this is a company quite a few of us use. i had them in my fogs and loved them only reason i took them out was to change to a different temp bulb. the 35w will be just fine no need to get the 55w as they may melt your housings. others will chime in soon

I just got tons of info on em... i am going to get HID'* soon. Can only use for Low beams and fogs. Cant use for high beams. Dont want to use 55w due to the heat and possibly blinding oncoming traffic. still want to mask of the bottoms of the reflective housing and paint em flat black so the light doesnt shine into oncoming eyes. DDMtuning is the main site to check out. They are cheap and have great warranties. figure out what heat/ color bulbs u want. the lower the number (3000k,ect) the more yellow. the higher (6-8000k) are bluish. and even higher start to get purple is. the higher the number doesnt necessarily mean brighter. I think 6000k is about perfect. if they are to bright (55w) or to blue (8000k and up) u run the risk of getting pulled over by cops. Hope this helps. Just make sure the kit u get is quality and includes ballists. not just HID bulbs, there not the same.

Man I really need to prove everyone here wrong and just put in a stock bulb and a HID bulb and check the temperatures with some kind of thermometer. 55W HID'* run COOLER than 55W halogens based on the simple design and the absence of the filament which creates all of that ambient heat. The core of the gas in the HID bulb is hotter, but that doesn't mean it emits more heat.

You won't melt housings with a 55W HID.

I've got the DDM kits... high and low.. Fogs will go in after I get my hella optilux 2500s. They were shipped yesterday, the estimated delivery date says june 24th. I'm doing a full guide\writeup with pictures when I install.

I really have to ask, why in the world would you want HID high beams? HID'* always take 5-10 seconds to light up fully, and the ballasts don't like being turned on and off repeatedly, which is what you'd be doing with high beams.

Yea u can burn out your ballast with repeated on/off switching. I have heard people on here say that 55w have melted there headlight and fog light housings. So just repeating someone else'* personal experiences.

I haven't. I've heard people saying they're scared it can happen, but I haven't ever, ever seen pictures of a melted foglight or headlight housing, which you'd figure people would post if it actually happened as proof. I know if my foglight or headlight housings melted, I would take some pictures. Wouldn't you? Wouldn't everyone else online in every 55W HID related thread? I've spent hours searching through such threads and haven't found anything.

So far all I've seen in every thread regarding HID'* on this forum is speculation, with no real proof.

If anyone here, can at any moment provide me with a picture of a melted fog light or headlight housing as a result of using 55W HID'*, I will stand corrected, but at this point, I stand by my claim that 55W HID'* run cooler in regard to emitted ambient heat than 55W halogens.

The same can be said of everywhere else that this question is asked through a google search. Everyone will claim what they think will happen, but you will not find a single picture of a housing or reflector that was melted, warped, or otherwise damaged as a result of using 55W HID'* instead of halogens or 35W HIDs.

So until someone actually comes back saying their housing melted by using 55W HID'*, I'd appreciate that such speculations be left at that; speculations, not fact. I use 55W HID'* in my 95 Regal and have yet to experience any damage to anything related to that HID kit.

Raptor I think you are probably referring to the thread where I said that to be on the safe side to not use 55W HIDs. I had only said that because I had not seen any tests, results, etc on anybody using 55W HIDs yet and didn't want someone to find out the hard way. Xtreme has since provided info that it is in fact safe.
