H-Body Design vs. W-Body
 

(I hope this is the right section, please move if not :?: )

I have driven two H (and C) Body Cars, a 1990 LeBabre, and 1995 Park Avenue, and both felt 300x superior in terms of build quality, quetness and solidness to my 1991 w body Cutlass. Is there significant differences in overall structural rigidity and quaklity between the two?

I am wondering if it may just be a coincedence that the Buicks felt so much better than my cutlass and some other w cars i have driven. I am looking for a 92-99 bonneville as i have mentioned before, and there aren't any around here for me to test drive. I want to make sure that the H-body really is a lot better design than the w body because i want that same feeling of solidness as the buicks did.

Also, how does the H-Body design compare to other cars like the 2nd generation W body?

As far as the chassis goes, they are both very solid and well built. You won't see many problems on either, and they can withstand a crash well from what I've read about (I don't want to find out in person). From an overall car standpoint, my old Bonnie was held together really well even at nearly 200K. My GTP is doing well, but at 106K, you can start to see things getting old and worn out. The interior rattles a bit.

It really all comes down to the overall car. Both the H-body and W-body are held together really well.

to me the cutlass is like a box with wheels!!! i've had a few buicks with the dyna ride and it was awesome!!! also with the bonnevilles i noticed a difference between my 92 and my 98 (both are SE's) my 92 seemed more ridgid and my 98 is a little softer... i say drive some then decide!!!

this was my 99 GTP after a 70 mph collision with an 18 wheeler that resulted in a rollover and i walked away without a single hair out of place. H and W bodies are built very very tough. that is the reason mom got a 97 Grand Prix GT and i have my 04 and we have out SSEi!!! These are both some tough cars.

in my opinion, grand prixs are much cheaper built than bonnevilles, cheaper grade of plastic, everything feels a tad cheaper and less durable than in a bonneville

I agree with you on that. The Bonnie is a more well built car. As for the chassis though, they are both great.

The Regal sits on a W chassis, and that is just as well built as a Bonnie too.

now moms car feels a tad cheaper than the SSEi and well my car does too kind of but my car doesnt feel all to cheap tho, or did they change when they changed to the new body styling on the GP

when I was car shopping I drove a Regal and was turned off by how the chassis composed itself over rough roads. I could feel the car literally flex and shudder over bumps whereas I haven't felt that so much on H bodied cars. I could also feel flex not attributed to suspension components during hard cornering. It wasn't the car leaning that was felt, but rather the flex of the chassis itself. It didn't feel all that solid to me to be honest. Not to say they're bad cars, I just don't feel as though the W-body is nearly as solid/stable as the H body.

my moms 04 compg grand prix had a ROUGH RIDE I mean the thing was crazy rough.
However, her 97 GP felt simmilar to my bville.
I think it all comes down to the car individually.

does suspension have a lot to do with the rigidity solid feeling? I guess I have driven too many buicks to totally judge the H-Body fairly. A pontiac may have more rattles, queaks and noises due to firmer suspension?

Thats one of my biggest pet peeves with cars its sqeeks and rattles! Ugh!

Oh and is there any other car that rides like an SSE? Like a GP GT or something, so i have an idea of the ride quality?
