Default tranny code difference.

plugging along on my 1993 Bonneville resto, per the VIN of both vehicles, I have found that one car has a tranny code of 3BYW, and the other is 3CTW. I have been told that they are NOT interchangable, but I don't know why. Can anybody shed some light on this? Thanks, Mike.
P.*. both cars are 1993 SE / SLE

What are the axle ratio'* for each car listed on the RPO labels? I'll bet you one is 3.06 and the other is 2.84.

Been down this road already, but both cars have 3.06... These cars are identical excpet one had F41 and traction control. I'm thinkin it is the traction control (there is a temperature sensor) but I was told both trannies had it, and that I would not have a problem. Either way, I'm not sure what could be an issue...
